9100 Original Mile 73 Z Sold New at Marhefka Chevy
5 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone! I'm a new member to the forum here, but not to Camaros. I have a few questions about my 73 Z28 and I was wondering if you guys could help me answer them. I'm try to figure out the history of my car but continue running into dead ends. I bought it back in 2001 from the second owner who lived in Highland Park, Illinois with 8768 actual miles. The car has all original paint, interior, tires, drive train, etc. The car is basically in "show room new" condition top to bottom, inside and out(It even still smells like a new car inside). The gentleman I bought it from purchased it September of 1995 with a little under 5,000 miles. He told me he bought it from an Estate Sale of multiple (around 50 he said) classic muscle cars. He said that all the cars in the Estate Sale were like the Z28 in terms of condition, they all had right around 5,000 original miles, and were in great shape. The reason for the Estate Sale was because the owner of the Estate passed away and willed all the cars to his nephew, and his nephew had the sale. I believe from what I was told, that the Nephew lived in Illinois at the time that all of this happened, but the Estate Sale was in Florida at the location were the cars were stored. Unfortunately for me, that was all the info I could get from the gentleman I bought it from about the history of the car. He told me that when he bought the car the smog stuff was off of it, it had an old set of headers, an old Sun Tach, a 70 style Hurst Shifter, and a set of Traction Bars. He removed the Traction Bars, reinstalled the sway bar, replaced the headers with a set of ceramic coated headers and a complete stainless steel exhaust system which I have the receipt for from 1997. According to the original window sticker, the car was sold new at Marhefka Chevrolet in Pennsylvania. Who ever owned the car had to have kept it in a climate controlled environment, and they had to have taken good care of it. The paint has no scratches, dings, dents, or spots that are checking. The tires are original, date coded, and have no dry rot. The car is in near new condition with the exception of the above listed mods that were most likely done when the car was new. Everything else is present, in working order, intact, etc. Even the seat belt buzzer works! If anyone knows any info on my Z28, or remembers anything about this car I would appreciate the information greatly! If there are any questions I can answer that may help find anymore info on it, I will gladly answer them. I am posting some pictures of it that I took earlier today, and I apologize that they are not the best.
Thanks again everyone, MY73Z. |

Nice! Marhefka is (was) my local Chevy dealer. It later became Bergman's, then Gap, now Cover Chevrolet They still sell their fair share of hi-perf Chevy cars... considering their small town location. Do you know the original owner's name? Odds are good he or his family are still local here.

I was hoping maybe someone from the Windber area may know of the Car or remember the original owner. I've tried about everything I can think of (including calling Rob Marhefka, to old to do a Title search, tried in 01') Posted on Nasty Z28 also. Being the car had less than 5,000 miles by 95', I would think it was from that local area (Maybe ran at P.I.D. stock class) Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks All! |

Killer car..lots of 73's were kept due to the body change for 74. I had one with 19,000 original miles that was in the family since new.

Re: 9100 Original Mile 73 Z Sold New at Marhefka Chevy
Hello everyone. For the last two months, my son and I personally went over the whole car with a fine tooth comb. We carefully detailed and noted the entire car as best as we could, and took over 400 pictures throughout the process. Here is a link to some of the pictures we uploaded to a photo bucket. The further we got into going over the car, the more we became amazed as to the originality of the car and how it actually left the factory. As stated above, the car does not have the correct exhaust system or shifter. But, other then that I believe that 90% of the rest of the car was untouched, as it left the factory. Thanks again everyone for looking, and for the input.

Great pictures and great car. I forgot they used Wide Oval's in '73. Corvettes got the radials.

Nice job on the "forensic photo shoot"...lots of good info there for those seeking originality.
I have always liked the 2nd gen Camaros...they were under valued/under appreciated for a long time. Your car certainly is a gem. Good luck...Wilma ps... |

Re: 9100 Original Mile 73 Z Sold New at Marhefka Chevy
very cool, it looks like the car has four options: Z28, spoilers, stripes and the AM radio. Pretty rare to see them without tinted windows and without the gauge package (that explains the Sun tach on the steering column), very nice ride though

Re: 9100 Original Mile 73 Z Sold New at Marhefka Chevy
Hey Guys. I've had the car 13 years and unfortunately just haven't had the time to enjoy it as much as I used to. I've spent more time in in the last 6 months carefully detailing and documenting the car than I have in the past 5 years, I did swap the valve covers back correctly after I realized I put them on the wrong sides. I had hoped to had gotten together with camaromb to do some photo's of the two cars together, again just didn't have the time. Thought I'd put it on Ebay and see what happens. Otherwise I'll just enjoy it for a few more years and hopefully take it down to the MCACN this fall, It's just a really nice car. If anyone wants any more info, shoot me a p.m.
Thanks Guys! |
