Correct paint for '69 Nova hood hinges and latch

Does anyone know of the correct spray paint color to use for '69 Nova hood hinges and the hood latch assembly? Or, do these have to go out for plating?

Thanks,

Paul

I don't believe that hood hinges were painted whether it was a Nova, Camaro or Chevelle etc.. They had a dark gray phosphate finish on them when installed. Not sure who does this type of finishing. Maybe someone else reading this thread can help out. Hope this helps.

Paul, Steve Gregori www.brakeboosters.com is fairly close to you and he does a great job. I request a very dark grey phosphate and he always comes through. They also have a slight crystalized texture which also resembles the original finish. Unfortunately I do not have any hinge specific photos but here is an installed photo of Dana's hinges. I have matched this finish to a pair of NOS and they are pretty damn close.

If you are looking for a "home brewed" solution...there are some spray can choices..

last set I did were media blasted first...surface had a slight texture to it...I primed with a grey primer...then a light coat of detail grey and a finish coat of the Eastwood product...they looked pretty nice. A high end resto probably deserves the full monty...but, this will work for most folks.

Brian at Supercar workshop plated mine, if you want to go that route. They came back perfect

Jerry MacNeish did mine 12 years ago and they still look real nice.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I have my brake booster with Steve Gregori at the moment. I will check with him on his pricing for doing them. May also consider doing myself with the Eastwood products. We'll see....

Thanks again!

I did my own with solution from Palmetto industries and a turkey fryer. Zinc Phosphate is a dark grey and Manganese phosphate is black which works perfect for most of the bolts on the car. ed

Paul, I have used the Eastwood spray phosphate before on some low end parts I have done and in reality it looks really good. I typically cover the parts with a good coat of paint and then put on a very dry coat holding the can over the part about 2' away which gives it a texture. It really looks good when done but it is a spray bomb none the less.
