Re: Howie's new ride.
I plan on retiring and moving to Tupelo,Ms. As soon as I can. This car was built in Bruce ms. The second owner lives 7 miles from Tupelo. the drag strip this car ran at is Fulton,ms, 22 miles from Tupelo. The car was blue ,same color as Jungle Jim's 66 nova. This car ran 170's and ran on 35% nitro. The according the second owner said this car came in second at the WINTER nationals in 67 or 68. I have not found any thing on that yet.

Re: Howie's new ride.
I can see Howie now..just like back in the day..the smell of nitro...fire burnout leading into long smokey burnout, launch and spin the tires the whole 1/4 mile..going through the traps at 170ish.

Re: Howie's new ride.
Sam I'm not sure AHRA or NHRA in 67 I can't find any funny car winners. The class was a/fx
I don't know where that fit in??? |

Re: Howie's new ride.
Little sanding here and a little mud she'll be fine.
|
Re: Howie's new ride.
Nice to see him back in a Chevyll/Nova. First time I meet him was in the staging lanes at Eddyville when he was running the 68. He just never looked right in a Camaro.
But then he's never really looked "just right". |

Re: Howie's new ride.
Schony, This is a first !! I disagree with you.
I have always looked right, I have never looked left. But your right, my first love is Nova's. |
Re: Howie's new ride.
That'll Buff right out!!!
|
Re: Howie's new ride.
Holey smokes Howie ... that's a early VW front beam!
looks like its been there awhile....is that what they ran on it in it's prime? I like it! find any motor parts with it? |
Re: Howie's new ride.
Kwhizz, you sound like Gary Anderson the guy that goes to some shows
with me. He uses 80 grit as his finish sanding paper. |
Re: Howie's new ride.
Bud, back then that was the trick front end. Wes Jerde who built most of the motors for the
Harrell 68 funny car. His Nova " Nova too Much" which was blown & injected 64 Nova had the same front end. I talked Marion Fairchild about the front end ,he explained that this was the first torsion bar front end. When you think about it you have two bars that are adjustable independent from each other. You can pre-load the front end. Way ahead of it's time. It was few years later before you had coil shocks. PS Wes's car is up there in those 4 pages of cars above. |
Re: Howie's new ride.
I here ya, hopefully not to sound rude , but that beam is not set as a adjustable beam, the center section of the tubes have to modified to rotate that changes ride hight and how tight you want them.
they may have pulled leafs/bars out to change ride height, old cheap trick to lower them. |
Re: Howie's new ride.
learn something new every day.
|
Re: Howie's new ride.
I just talked to the org owner & builder of my car. I was told he bought a 66 nova body in white. In talking with him ,he did in fact buy a body in white. He said he had all kind of problems getting one. He said you had to know the right people to get one. Very sharp guy
to talk to. I am going down to Tupelo and spend some with the 1st & 2nd owners. I plan on learning a lot more about the car. |
Re: Howie's new ride.
that a way Howie. You are on the scent now! Good luck!!!!
|
Re: Howie's new ride.
This will work out great my 6 year old Grandson lives in Tupelo. Bruce, MS. is 40 to 50 miles away from Tupelo. The second owner is 6 miles south of Tupelo.
|
Re: Howie's new ride.
Just got back from Tupelo spent a week there. I left Tupelo at 7am and got back to tupelo at 4pm went to see both guys . Talked to Jerry & Marion ,had a great time with them. Jerry had 2 pictures of the car when he was building it. Marion had one picture. Marion also had one of the zoomy header. Hanging in one of his buildings. I bought some parts from Marion. Learned a lot about the car.
