'70 Nova

Well my '70 Nova arrived today in Oz and I couldn't be happier. I would like to thank Bruce (xplantdad), Dan Vasic, Kevin DeWitte for helping me purchase the car, and especially Paul Hayden who I bought the car from as it is better than I could have expected.
It restores a little faith in humanity when you are able to deal with fine people almost a world away, so thank you.

Nice car!Do you have to get the Nova converted to right hand drive?

Thanks Sam. We may need to talk about some of your day 2 traction bars!

Bill, don't have convert anything over 30 years old.

Pretty car. I too like the blk/wht/crager combo. I think you need an SS grille emblem though.

Exactly what I was wondering. Is it required on every street driven car down under?

Damien-Glad that it all worked out! I knew that you'd be happy with it...It's a beautiful car. Paul is a great guy as well....

I hope to see you out here sometime!

Wow, white with black tires & Cragers!

Can you give me the wheel / tire specs / sizes, and any rubbing of the tires?

Hey Damien...Paul said to look in the glove box. The SS emblem for the front is in there

Also, give him a call. He sent another "surprise" in the car for you as well!

It has 15x7 rears with 275/60's and 14x7 fronts with 225/70's and they all rub, which I knew about.
I have just picked up a new set of 255/60's for the rear which are roughly the same height and I am going to raise the front about a half an inch to an inch and hopefully that will fix the rubbing issues. I love the stance of the car and hopefully we wont have to veer too far from what it is now.
Bruce, I found Paul's hidden treasures, or rather my son did!, as we were picking the car up at the dock.

I would be interested in peoples thoughts for keeping black sidewalls or RWL out? I like it the way it is but also like the RWL, too.

Thanks for the info, I am doing new wheels / tires on my 68 Nova. I know the key sometimes to a 3 rd. Gen. Nova is the wheel backspacing. A 4.25 backspacing usually allows a 255/60/15 for the rear and also fits for around a 235/60/15 front. Plus make sure the rear end is centered. Less backspacing causes the rubbing, although a 275/60/15 rear is probably just too big even with proper backspacing.

Good Luck, I love that Cragar / black tire look, reminds me of the 68 Nova Grumpy car back in the day.

Thanks Rick.

I swapped out the 275's for 255's in the rear today, and the ride is much better with no scrubbing.
Just need to work out what to do with the front, change the tires to a 215/65 perhaps or just raise the front about an inch?
The jury is out Any suggestions?

A 225/70/15 should be similar height to your rear 255/60/15.

Whoops, a 215/70/15 is even closer to your rears now. But, check your back spacing on your wheels, you probably need around a 4.00 or more back spacing to keep the fronts from rubbing.

Re: '70 Nova

The fronts have 4" bs. After thinking on it overnight, I am going to raise the front a little and see how that goes.

Damien 01-09-2014 06:30 AM

Re: '70 Nova

Swapped out the front springs today and raised the car as well. Is probably a fraction high for my liking but may settle a little as it has brand new springs in it. Drives great now without any scrubbing issues. Lost the stance a little but an ok trade off in my book.
Registration next week then we will use it as our weekender whilst the Chevelle is at the paint shop.

Flash Back Friday!

I noticed this morning when scrolling through FB, my former Nova was the banner picture for an Australian muscle car page.
I only have seller's remorse with 2 or 3 cars, but this is one of them. It was a fantastic driving car and one that would have lent it self well to some Day 11 treatment. Anyway, it went to good home and hopefully the current owner enjoys it as much as I did.
The first two pics are from my ownership.

BJCHEV396 05-09-2020 02:49 AM

Nice! Do you have seller's remorse Damien? Lol.

GrumpyJeff 05-09-2020 10:40 AM

Wow ! obviously its very "Grumpesque", Such a great looking color combo with the White ,Top & side molding. But I don't recall ever really seeing that many original White Novas back it the day ??? And the Cragars are Perfect !!!
