Re: What COPOs were meant to do...
No Rick that car was sold to a guy and he is having a cookie cutter restoration done. This is another COPO that was bought from a dealer/dealership in Columbus where the owner has a huge sign/petroleum collection.

Can you share more on this car? I am not familiar with it or the story...... Rich |
Re: What COPOs were meant to do...
Wheels up rocking a set of slapper bars if I am looking at those shadows correctly. Looking good doing it old school!
|
Re: What COPOs were meant to do...
That is STOUT!!!
|
Re: What COPOs were meant to do...
Sold new at Bob McDorman in 1970 and he bought it back in 1993 for his collection. Doug bought the car off Bob when he was thinning his collection 3 years ago. Yes it is all old school and the way it should be...
The car is shown at 2:35 in the video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSQzwsc6xlA |

Re: What COPOs were meant to do...
Guys , thanks for the kind words...the car is a real COPO X11. Rally Green with white standard interior. Being a stock M22 4 speed ...we have wrestled with this car for 2 1/2 years now ....it has been a demon and an angel all in the same day ....lol. The launch was at 5,600 ....but I have to give the credit to my partner in crime ...Dave McGaffee. He has been the mastermind behind this journey from start until present day....our friendship gets tested with this Green Machine ...lol. This winter we will put our heads together and look to make a few changes. Joe....Fred...."HOLE SHOT" ....is the same as "MONEY SHOT " ...and I can't say what I am thinking....lol. My car enthusiasm comes from my dad .....he would have been 70 yesterday...Happy Birthday POPS. And of course Dave, Joe, Mark, Dru, Tom, Benny, Shawn, Rich , Steve, Brian, Frank, Kenny...and arch rivals ...Grady and Mike. The front license plate is courtesy of Rich Rutt here on the site. Stay "TUNED". Doug

So that's what they're calling it these days - the term fits. Sure wish he woulda left that car as it was. It had a lot of authenticity from what I saw in the photos. |
Re: What COPOs were meant to do...
That's neat Doug, I was wondering when you were gonna' come clean on the hole shot...
I bet Dave could get Grady's 67 about 3' in the air, maybe next spring. Mike |

In a few years, is someone going to be complaining of a cookie cutter preservation? Probably. Every trend that comes along adds something to the hobby (except for the 70's van thing that almost killed it). I get the whole preservation thing, and love looking at some of the untouched ORIGINAL cars. Room for both in the hobby, just as there is room for the restomod, the highly modified, the pro touring, and the day 2. I like all of them. Not a big fan of what usually gets called pro street, but again, to each his own. I only see a few cars that I would really like to leave as found. Back on topic. What a really cool car, great pic of a great launch. |

Re: What COPOs were meant to do...
The car has run 12.206 with issues on the big end at 114
|
Re: What COPOs were meant to do...
That's a hell of a lot of air for a low 12 second run! I would have guessed deep in the 11s.

Re: What COPOs were meant to do...
He wishes!!! Get that 4spd ironed out so I can beat on it like it was my own.

Joe

I hear you beat it all the time Joe... |
Re: What COPOs were meant to do...
Mark ...he does. Lol. On paper the car should be 11.30's. the perfect pass has yet to be ran. We are enjoying getting there. That day will come. We won't put a roll bar in it. The stock day 2 look is enough for me

Re: What COPOs were meant to do...
