WTB-Alternator
Does anyone have an alternator for an 06A built 69 Z28 that I don't have to sell my house to buy? Unbelievable how high the prices are. I just need a core, I'll get it rebuilt myself.

Re: WTB-Alternator
what are you looking to spend on a real unit ?

Not a lot. What do you have and how much? Your stuff is way too high for me. |
Re: WTB-Alternator
Look up wilma99 on ebay, he[she] has affordable rebuilt alternators that are OK if you dont want to spend too much. I will pay 700.00 or more for a core right now myself and I really dont need any . Expect to pay even more for a piece that fits a 06A car too.
|
Re: WTB-Alternator
Wilma99 has re-stamps I believe doesn't he[she]? I really don't want to go that route. $700.00 is pretty steep for average Joe America. It won't hurt to keep looking though, I have stumbled across some correct 69 Z28 parts inexpensively the past few years. Something will show up.

Re: WTB-Alternator
I really don't think you are going to find any real 1100837 alternators that are quality cores for under $800 anywhere. They just aren't out there. Your best bet is a quality restamp like Chuck suggested.

Re: WTB-Alternator
Got a nice meticulously restored 9F17 original 837 here.
..oops,never mind,I see it's too late for your car. |
Re: WTB-Alternator
I have a few 9F17 and you can use them on your 06A car.
|
Re: WTB-Alternator
I believe 9F17 is too late. My VIN starts 653xxx which I believe is a true 06A car isn't it? Is 9D2 or 9E23 out of line?
|
Re: WTB-Alternator
All June cars are 06A so potentially you can.
|
Re: WTB-Alternator
Is there even a real 9D2 date on an 837 alternator? I've seen and have a 9D3 but don't think I've seen a 9D2 FWTW.

Re: WTB-Alternator
Yes, all June cars have 06A stamped on the trim tag, but not all 06A's where built the first week of June. My car VIN is right at the end of May beginning of June so I'm thinking anything after that first week wouldn't be correct. My engine is 0604 built, how far past that is good? What date do I need? I'm no expert, just a guy in need.
Not sure who told me those dates, but I'm sure they can be verified by somebody in the know, but being the average Joe American person I am I personally don't have that information, I just asked someone years ago. 9 D 2 and 9 D 23 are what I have written down in my notes to look for. IDK guys. |

If that's the case I'll keep looking, something may pop up. I found a dated starter cheap just last year and I bought the dated brake stuff from you fairly reasonable for the dated M/C this past spring. Oh they're out there, I just have to be patient. Been looking for 13 years. |
Re: WTB-Alternator
Gary, it maybe a long shot but you might want to try Jim Brady over at Supersport sales. There's a chance he might have one collecting dust on a shelf or something. Here is the link with the phone number:

Re: WTB-Alternator
How's it going Sal. Thanks for that link. I'll give it a shot and drop your name if that's OK? I haven't had the chance to get my starter done yet either. I called that guy you know in Philly for a rebuild but never got an answer back.
|
Re: WTB-Alternator
I also doubt Jim would sell one cheap. Your best bet would be scouring the swap meets early on. Pick up every alternator and check the number. That's how some of them have been found lately.

"Your best bet would be scouring the swap meets early on. Pick up every alternator and check the number. And assuming you ever find one cheap and that its not a restamp , what did you save?
|
Re: WTB-Alternator
Or you could waste your money on a round of golf or going to a football game. I'll gladly spend my money going to swap meets and enjoying every moment digging through someones boxes to find a little treasure. No better way to spend a weekend!!

Re: WTB-Alternator
Thanks guys for the tips. Local swap meets are few and far between here. At one time there was one at Dover Downs race track, but I have no clue why it hasn't been back. Carlisle is a good place, but I haven't the time to just take off and go there, family and boat load of grand kids take up a bunch of my time, so,I just hit the forums, ebay and maybe on-line sites. It's been a hard road locating the parts I need, but I do what I can. A dated alternator is pretty much that last big item I really need now. It's been 13 years and I haven't found a decent dated one yet for what I can afford.

I'm hangin' in there. Thanks. Yeah you can drop my name to Jim (Sal from Philly). I bought my entire smog system from him a few years back. Just ask him what you're looking for and he may just have it! That alternator/starter rebuild guy near me has been busy as of late. Spoke to him on the phone a few times this summer. He still hasn't gotten to rebuild my starter yet! [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif[/img] SAL |

I'll try to call him again maybe next week. I'm hoping I can find the alternator I need sometime soon and he can rebuild both for me. |
Re: WTB-Alternator
There is a 9 F 14 837 on ebay now for $675.00. I would pay that price but it's too late and maybe a re stamp? I've seen the 9 F 17 before but not that date.

Re: WTB-Alternator
Gary,
I clicked on your link to ebay and although the seller says it's a 9F 14 the picture of the date sure looks like a 9F 17 to me. Good price if the alternator for sale is actually the one pictured. Chris |
Re: WTB-Alternator
Price wise, it's just about what I would pay, date wise it wouldn't be correct for my car. I looked at the date and thought it looked more like a 7 then a 4, that's why I posted. Not very clear to really say for sure.
Does anyone have any clear cut evidence that this date would even be correct for my car? I see where the seller has made a correction on the date. Just to add to this, I posted this question on the CRG site as well if no one here knows for sure...but I hardly think you guys wouldn't know either. |
Re: WTB-Alternator
"Does anyone have any clear cut evidence that this date would even be correct for my car?" Check the ending monthly production numbers for the plant June[end of May thru end of june] divide by 30,and you will have an approximate day of production in June.

Re: WTB-Alternator
would a 9F17 work for a 9/1 Z28

Already done that years ago. Spoke with others at CRG for verification...early June is what we come up with. Your statement doesn't help with the date though, any reason for this? Just trying to find what I need man. |

From what I understand that date would be good for 9/1, but I'm no expert. I'm sure others here would have that knowledge. |
