Friend of mine told me he just hauled 2 complete 327's and a 67 302 block into the scrap yard! I know the yard owner so I don't believe they hit the engine container that get sent in. How do I positively identify that it is truly a 302 block? There were what, 602 Z's made? Is there a serial number stamped on block?

Look for "MO" or "MP" on the deck pad pass. side in front of head on block.

Went down today and looked the engines over. No MO or MP. What is there is these:
3970010 & MA stamp
3970014 & MR stamp
3914678 & ME stamp

Have pics of stampings if anyone wants to see them.

3914678 & ME stamp = 210 horse 327 with an automatic
Can't help with the other two. Need to know casting date.
3970010 was used for many years beginning late April 69.
The 3970014 block had late production 69 usage in 350 engines. (It was also used in 1972-1973 applications.)

That would help, but more importantly is the casting date on each block.

Got the pics, here's what I get below.
When you can read Vin stampings, counting backwards the <span style="text-decoration: underline">8'th digit from the end</span> denotes model year.
Best always confirm block casting # jives w/ what you see.
If you can read the CMA block Vin check for model year digit (probably a 4).
