HIGHLIGHTS

- 1 of 20 L88 Corvettes produced in 1967
- Documented with the Tank Sticker, vintage photos and time slips including the first run on a new car at Puyallup Dragway in Washington
- Purchased new by Jim Elmer of Portland, Oregon at Lyman Slack Chevrolet
- Winner of the 1967 NHRA A/Sports Nationals at Indianapolis
- Campaigned mostly in the Pacific Northwest running 11.12 seconds at 127.45 MPH with only 7 inch slicks and headers
- Sold to Rob Robinson who raced the car for the rest of its career, consistently placing among the Top 4 or 5 in the national points standings
- The third owner, Tim Thorpe, began restoring the car before selling it to Buddy and Nova Herin in 1996
- The Naber Brothers completed the restoration in the factory color combination of Marlboro Maroon with Black stinger and soft top, the interior has original door panels and seat covers with new carpet
- Mr. Herin reached out to DuPont to recreate the correct factory Marlboro Maroon hue for this car that is now used as a guideline by the NCRS
- Retains its original body panels, factory side exhaust
- L88 427/430 HP engine, M22 4-speed manual, 4.11 rear end
- J56 heavy duty brakes, J50 power brakes
- Kelsey Hayes bolt-on wheels, Firestone non-DOT redline tires
- Bloomington Gold L88 Invasion participant in 2008
- Regional NCRS Top Flight in 199

Funny story - Coming home from work last night I drove past a neighbors house here in TX who had a Maroon 67 convertible vette in the drive way.... could it possible have been??? noooo.... hummmm....

If someone is bidding on the car in person, chances are pretty high they are really interested in buying it. When you just list it in the classifieds of a few sites, you will be bombarded with all the picture collectors, low-ballers, dealers looking to make a buck, document collectors, guys that want to trade junk for it, guys that call you a million times to ask stupid questions, guys that have no intention whatsoever of spending a dime, guys that get mad when you won't consider their offer of half your price, guys that &quot;have to check with momma&quot;, and the list goes on and on. I speak from experience, as well as many here can.

They only made 20 of them so the chances are that more than one person will want to try to buy it. The auction process has the potential to get the seller more money than if he had just listed it for sale with a set price.

The 1967 N.A.R.T Ferrari that brought over 27 mil last week is a perfect example of that. The catalog estimates of it's value were I think 14-18 mil ? Two people really wanted it.

They made 10 converts &amp; 10 coupes and yes if you sell a Vette for millions you are going to pay Uncle Sam his share.

Two people really wanted it. </div></div> I can name many examples of when a car was offered to private parties for tens of thousands of dollars less only to see them pay a much higher price at auction. It makes no sense whatsoever to me but it is what it is. I have tracked L88 Corvettes for about 30 years and this will be fun to watch. If I owned the car and I needed to sell it, I would do what the owner is doing. Put in a open market place with the largest captive audience to get the most for my car. This car should do very well. I hope I win the lottery in the next couple of weeks.

I bet you it wont beat a private sale that has ALREADY happen! The prices have already moved up before this even goes off on the auction block !! There is no doubt the corvette world will be watching this sale! Hope Buddy hits it out of the ballpark, great guy!!

The owner of this car lives on Corpus Christi and I’m in that town lots on business. He is a friend and I visit him at his business on occasion when I’m in Corpus. He has lots of cars; the L88 is the premier car in his collection. He’s liquidating his entire collection for health reasons. The first time I saw this L88 was at Earthquake ’88 in Bloomington, the last time I saw it was at the NCRS National event in 2006. Buddy has had it at our Texas Regional for judging. It’s a great car and the circumstances of its sale are sad.

Tim, I hope that it sells for a record price. It's never a good thing when someone has to sell for health reasons. It does make you realize what's important.

Seriously though, here is yet another example of a car bringing more at auction than it would have in a private sale. It has been available for purchase for the last year for 2.5 million with no takers. It goes to auction and it sells for 3.2 million plus fees. I am happy for Buddy.

On a more serious note. I had never met Buddy Herin until Saturday night but people had said he is a nice guy. He and his Wife both were both very nice. For those that are not aware Buddy is very ill so this was a big deal in finding new homes for his collection. He got out of his wheelchair and drove the L88 up onto the block. It was great that he got to be there to see just how much everyone liked his cars. May God bless you Buddy.

It was a sad day knowing him and watch him sell his collection was very moving!! Glad he hit it out of the ball park!! Cars are our Hearts and Passion for life and I can only say, I hope to have a lot more of my LIFE in this hobby!!!!You dont get to many chances in YOUR life time to enjoy everything to its fullest. Hopefully, Buddy has some really good friends surrounding him. You don't realize how badly you need good friends until your butt's in a serious crack! Send up a prayer for Buddy. We all love cars, but Buddy has just helped us put them in perspective.
