Re: 1970 RS Z28
I really like this car Charley. You should have the buyer sign a contract that they leave it just the way it is.

I think Ed had a question on CRG about orange paint on intake bolt where they brush paint the plug wire stand. Here is a example.https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...763-photo1.jpg

Re: 1970 RS Z28
Nice car for the money. Not too many all originals out there. The muffler is bent in the exact same place that my 70L78's was!
I'll pass this on to the guy that bought my L78. He emailed me and said his dad was looking for an L78 now, but this car would be too cool for them to have at shows. RichPern |

Re: 1970 RS Z28
Is special paint on window sticker stripe delete?
|
Re: 1970 RS Z28
The original dealership is still in business.

Re: 1970 RS Z28
That's cool as heck!

Re: 1970 RS Z28
the cowl tag has the stripe color of 10, i believe is white.

So what do you think the special paint would be that is referred to on the window sticker? |
Re: 1970 RS Z28
The owner said he removed the stripes but I can't see any evidence of it ever having stripes. My guess is the owner got tired of people telling him it couldn't be a Z28 because it doesn't have stripes.
|
Re: 1970 RS Z28
In 1973 the stripes were an option. In 70-72 i think they were part of the z28 package. Does anyone know if you could stripe delete in 70-72? Like charley says, if it had no stripes then could be a factory cowl tag mistake. Charley do you have a paint guage to see if the hood and decklid has been painted?
|
Re: 1970 RS Z28
There have been other 70 Z's which have been ordered without the stripes, but I think there was no .XX behind the Z28 line on the TTag.
I was wondering if the .00 cost on the build sheet means that there was no special paint/delete, but no one seems to know if there would be any cost to that (hence the .00 cost) on the BS. Cool car though, and original. RichP |

RichPern </div></div> When I had a backfire and blew the muffler on my 72 T/A it looked exactly like that. There is some design flaw that makes them prone to implosion when too much fuel lights off in the pipes. The muffler expands to fully fill the space between the rear end cover and the fuel tank. It was a SOB to get it out of my car when it blew. Nice car BTW! |
Re: 1970 RS Z28
Very interesting car, would like an opinion as it relates to this 2nd gen thread. Back in 2000 I picked up a 1971 Camaro SS, had been in storage since the late eighties and purchased it for $5500, came our of PA. The guy I bought it from said he had some papers for it, and I told him to put them in the glove and I would get them when the car got delivered. What got delivered was a car in similar condition to the one in this thread, an honest 75k low option SS, four speed, no console, no tach, no air...very original car. the body was in very similar condition so I put on two fenders from goodmark and full quarters. While patches would have worked, the body guy said this would be quicker and I would get a straighter outcome....he was right. The doors, rockers and floors were very clean, a product of the rusty jones treatment at the dealer The car was painted and cleared, came out pretty nice, I have a set of Z28 wheels on it, had the driver seat recovered and put a carpet in it....probably would have been fine but the body guy was not keen on covering things so easier to put a new carpet in it. As far as paperwork, I got the original handwritten dealer order form, broadcast sheet, protectoplate and some misc other paperwork. I replaced all the chrome, trim, lights,, etc....did valve guides to fix a little blow by and have done all of the mechanicals, everything.....springs, shocks,, brakes, lines, bushing, bearings.....everything...
so after owning this for ten year or so, I may want to move it along and what caught my eye was the money on this one and what I may try to get for mine...matching numbers legit SS, cottonwood green ext, black interior (I know that is not most peoples favor https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...s_side_new.jpg ite color). Any thoughts on what may be a reasonable price for this....thanks, I appreciate everyones opinion |

I know how he felt. I traded a Subaru wagon in on a new '04 WRX STi. Big improvement.

Re: 1970 RS Z28
Charlie,
The car probably came with the stripes because the stripe color is identified on the trim tag after the Z-28. Also the paint code is called out, in this case code 48. I have an almost twin to this car that I have owned for 27 years. It is a completely original stripe delete car except that the 2nd owner that I bought it from disliked the original color (citrus green) and painted it Forest Green in 1976. It has 2 dashes (- -) for the paint code on the trim tag. Does not have a number after the Z-28 on the tag as well. It is an 04B Norwood car. Nice original car you have at a very fair price. Dave |
Re: 1970 RS Z28
Also, I have no idea why the referrence to special paint on your window sticker. It would make sense if the car was a stripe delete but since this car likely came with stripes I don't have a clue what it means. I don't have a window sticker to my car so I am not much help in that regard.

Re: 1970 RS Z28
To me the car was a special order. If you look at the bottom of the window sticker it has the original owner's name at the bottom and the same guy (Howard Parkes) appears on the copy of the car invoice as the buyer.

Re: 1970 RS Z28
Trunk floor has several pinholes but nothing you would replace the trunk floor for.

Re: 1970 RS Z28
Nice car, The trans was 232.35 option in 70 that would have been a bunch of money wouldn't it? I didnt see the spec paint on the window sticker or did I miss something ?
|
Re: 1970 RS Z28
You did.
It's on the very first line...1001AA Special Paint. |
Re: 1970 RS Z28
The carb and dist dates are exactly in line with known production runs. Nice car.
Also saw the 'V12 BITURBO' insignia in the background |

That 232.35 cost for the M22 trans probably has alot to do with why they are so rare from the factory. I doubt if the trans has ever been out of the car. It still has the reverse lockout rod hooked up. |
Re: 1970 RS Z28
Charley, I noticed the car has Minn plates on it, where's the car at now? I know some in MN looking.
I guess we'll never know the answer for sure on the stripe delete deal thou I believe it is a stripe delete car and a rare mistake on the cowl tag. Below is a picture of a window sticker that I posted over on nastyz. It from a 70Z that was special ordered with Black paint. Notice The 1001 code is different and there's a charge for the non-stock color... just saying that it seems to validate the stripe delete on Charlies car because the code is different and there's no charge. http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps2ada2a50.jpg |
