He was a radical anti war dope smokin coke snortin psycho. Spent more time in LSD la la land than the real world. I have the album on vinyl.
Great song. Tremendous talent. Screwed up in the head. Wasted life. Never say his 28th bday. |

His Dad was a 2 star Admiral who commanded a carrier group off of Vietnam. Think there was much friction between the two of them?

One of my favorites is Good Vibrations by The Beach Boys. It just sounds like the 60s! Time is Tight is a great tune. |

Can you imagine being a fly on the wall at the Morrison household holiday gatherings? Yikes! Great selection for sure, Ken, but there were SO MANY great songs in that era I don't think I could pick an absolute favorite if my life depended on it |

In that interview link that Steve posted, Morrison's father states that Jim "...was a good man....he had moral and ethical standards that were very high..."

Really?????? I think you smoked too many lunches. BTW, Elton started in the 60's. Kiss??? Please. |
Re: Best Songs from the 60's
The Doors and "Light My Fire"....although an abbreviated version, the live performance on the Ed Sullivan Show was one of the best moments in rock and roll history. He was the epitome of cool, and the band was fantastic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGaV2A6o0IM And I agree about KISS. The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is a joke, but I have to agree that keeping KISS out of the HOF is a wise move. KISS were about marketing, not music. They produced 20 albums, never had a #1. They released 58 singles, and only one ever hit the Top 10 ("Beth"). The 60's and 70's were the best eras for rock and roll, followed by the 80's, then the 50's (and I love 50's music, but face it, other than a handful of artists, rock music was limping along to the same formulaic tunes). Rock and Roll pretty much died around 2000, with "American Idol" and the web telling people what to buy, and album oriented rock died a slow death. |
Re: Best Songs from the 60's
Opinions will always vary.
I was a KISS fan in the 70's, but I was only a kid, so the whole makeup / super hero thing appealed to me. Didn't really appreciate the music until later on. I think their first three albums are really good. Best music, IMO, of the era was Queen and Sweaty Teddy. |

I have had my 69 Chevelle since 96, and I have only ever had one cassette tape in it.
Steppenwolf. I never seen to want or need another tape.....LIKE Ryan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMbATaj7Il8 |

As a kid, I always thought Kiss was, for a lack of better words, embarassing. Yet, I liked Alice. Funny thing is, I don't mind listening to Kiss today....Loooong Live Rock! Who?

First and 2nd gen Novas are great looking cars, but have that HORRIBLE front suspension (similar to the first and second gen Mustangs). Commercial success d/n equal excellence. Still... I get it for the "younger" guys around here. It is what you grew up on. |
Re: Best Songs from the 60's
I remember buying the first Kiss album, thought it was pretty good. Went commercial after that.
Pretty cool song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=US9lRkeW-m0 |
Re: Best Songs from the 60's
Janis Joplin/Big Brother...Cheap Thrills...Ball and Chain. Have it in vinyl.
Creme... Wheels of Fire...Born under a bad sign. Have it in vinyl too. Still have over a hundred vinyl albums and still play them. Credence...Runnin thru the Jungle. Who did Witchy Women? and Green Eyed Lady?, Spirit in the Sky? Spirt...Mr. Skin. Steppenwolf...The Pusher. James Gang Live...Funk 49...actually the whole album rocks. |
Re: Best Songs from the 60's
Well I've got tickets to see the Eagles on the 16th. My mom and I are going so I admit to a bias opinion but for everyone who was just old enough to drive through the muscle car era probably has them on a short list of bands which defined thier youth.
When did "Take It Easy" come out? 1971 I think. A shame so few bands from then make the rounds today. Gary, The Eagles did WW. |

Re: Best Songs from the 60's
Damnnn...you guys know your stuff. Spirit in the Sky was on every music box in every pub I hit when I was stationed at Mildenhall, England. Very popular song there.
How about Witchy Woman...anybody? I'll have to look but I have a load of Eagles albums. I'm a big Joe Walsh fan. He would have done well even as a comedian. Anybody ever seen the Drew Carry episode he was on and what he said when he first saw Mimi? I still fall out of my chair when I think about it. What a nut. |
