SCR16 schedule, attendees, etc.
SCR16, which this is year is being dedicated to the late Peter “COPOPETE” Simpson, will be held August 9th, 10th and 11th, 2013, at Gateway Motorsports Park, which is located near Madison/Collinsville, IL, just East of St. Louis,
For 2013 Gateway will be hosting four shows, Super Chevy, Ford Fun Weekend, Monster Mopar weekend, and The All American Show (TAAS). TAAS is designed to bring together the best of the best from the previous three shows, which SCR16 will be a part of. During the event we will have out own area, close to the grandstands, on asphalt and fenced off, for both cars racing and for cars for display only. Though anyone who would like to compete for cash/awards for TAAS is more then welcome to do so, as a group, as in the past, we will be exhibition racing and showing only, no judging. Track day (play day) and “meet and greet” will be at Gateway Motorsports Park on Friday, 10:00am-5:00pm, an all day TNT, and a chance for anyone who would like, to pre-register and drop off their trailer/car, The actual American Show will begin on Saturday, 10:00am-5:00pm, with racing, car show, vendors, etc. As a group, we will have our cars on display (in our own area) and will make 2-3 passes (exhibition) down the ¼. The show continues on Sunday, 10:00am-4:00pm, with basically the same schedule as Saturday, with 2-3 exhibition passes. The promoters are going to try and do some match racing with us on Sunday, Chevy vs Ford, Chevy vs Mopar, etc. Each evening the show ends at around 5:30pm, which will allow us to do other things. At present we have plans to have a social time/banquet type meal Friday evening. Please let us know in advance if you would like to attend the dinner. The host hotel will be the Doubletree in Collinsville, 618-345-2800 (mention Supercar Reunion for group rate). This is the hotel we have used in the past, only minutes from Gateway. Anyone who would like to participate, be a sponsor, volunteer (photos, video, etc) please contact Rob or myself. Thanks in advance for your support; Tom Clary 417-331-4205 Here is who we have thus far, if you would like to be added to the list, please let us know. Tom Clary--1970 Yenko Deuce Robert Clary--1969 Yenko Camaro Kim Howie-1970 Gibb Camaro Simpson family- |

Seeing Kim run is worth the price of admission itself...he probably hasn't run since he got pulled over by the cops driving someone else's rental car...HA!... |
Re: SCR16 schedule, attendees, etc.
I will be there with my Deuce. It is an honor to part of this tribute to Pete.

Re: SCR16 schedule, attendees, etc.
SCR16 is going to be a very special event, not only because of the usual mix of supercars showing/racing, but as a tribute to CopoPete, a large group of friends and family will be attending with several of his cars.

Re: SCR16 schedule, attendees, etc.
When will T-shirts be for sale? Any from last year?
|
Re: SCR16 schedule, attendees, etc.
From last year's event (SCR15), we have a few large and X-large, and one 3x.
As in the past, shirts for this year's event (SCR16) will be for sale during the event, with any surplus available once the event is over. |
Re: SCR16 schedule, attendees, etc.
I will take the 3x I'm still growing

Re: SCR16 schedule, attendees, etc.

we are planning on bringing all of dad's copo's + the deuce. They will be all "race ready"
|
Re: SCR16 schedule, attendees, etc.
Great news.... cannot wait to see them go down the track.
IMO, no better way to honor your dad then run his cars. |
Re: SCR16 schedule, attendees, etc.
Great tribute.
A lot of people in this life come and go, very few make their mark. Your dad really made his mark, actually two black marks at a time. Make him proud COPO OWEN, and COPO ERIC. Ryan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...92_simpson.jpg |
Re: SCR16 schedule, attendees, etc.
The last few days I have been working with Gateway on SCR16. They are very excited to have us as part of their All American Show and are doing their best to make our part of their event special. We hope to have most, if not all of the details ironed out, including a schedule, by the first of next week. A couple of things we are working on for our group, is a ample, covered parking area for the super cars and expanded parking for tow rigs.

Re: SCR16 schedule, attendees, etc.
I have received a tentative schedule from Gateway Motorsports Park for the upcoming All American/ SCR16 shows. Should be a fun weekend. Much more going on, but here are the times that concern us.
BTW, cost for Supercars is $55.00, which includes entry for car (racing and/or display) and two people for all weekend. Friday August 9, 2013. Noon Racer (and us) gates open 2:00-4:00pm Supercar Reunion fun runs (just us racing) Saturday August 10, 2013 8:00am gates open 11:00am Supercar Reunion exhibition run 7:00pm Supercar Reunion exhibition run Sunday August 11, 2013 7:00am gates open 2:00pm Supercar Reunion exhibition run Here is a link for complete information. Re: SCR16 update 7-23-2013
Just got a call from Bill Hunter, who lives out West, is planning on attending SCR16. Bill is one of the really good guys of our hobby, who bought not one, but two ’69 Yenko Camaros new.
He told me he wants to attend for three reasons. 1. A few years ago he raced a good friend’s Corvette at one of the SCRs. That friend passed away recently, but his son has plans to attend SCR16, hopefully to race Bill in honor of his dad. 2. Bill lost his lovely wife, who always traveled with him to the SCR on July 7, 2013. She was looking forward to making the trip to St. Louis with him, so he is going to attend for both of them. 3. as much as he hates to part with it, Bill has decided to sale his Camaro, hopefully to someone within the sYc, who will enjoy it as much as he has. https://www.yenko.net/features/BH_SCR9_fp.jpg |
Re: SCR16 update 7-23-2013
Nice.
Bill & his car alone are a reason to attend. |
Re: SCR16 update 7-23-2013
Wild Bill is good people and I love how he lets the car eat..

I thought about jumping into this grudge racing thing, but if I lost I do not think I can keep those Canadians in beer.
Maybe I will challenge Howie and his Camaro since he has given up drinking. |
Re: SCR16 if racing
A couple of reminders for those racing.
Any car running 13.99 or quicker, the driver will need a helmet. Everyone will need a catch can for coolant overflow. Driveshaft loop required: With slicks = 13.99 or quicker Street tires = 11.49 or quicker We highly recommend a loop and helmet for all racers. |
Re: SCR16 banquet/dinner
On August 9th (Friday) I have made arrangements for us to gather for drinks and a meal at a restaurant near the host hotel/Gateway center. It is Ravanelli’s and is located the other side of the go-kart track from the hotel/Gateway Center. There will be a cash bar starting at 6:00pm and dinner at 7:00pm. The meal is buffet style, came highly recommended by a couple of club members, and is reasonably priced. The fun park/go kart track is open until 10:00pm, so following the dinner, any grudge racing not settle at the dragstrip can be settled there. LOL
Anyone who has plans to attend the dinner please drop me a line and let me know how many, as I have to give the restaurant an idea of how of us will be there. |
