LS-6 without stripes per build sheet is this odd
I recently bought back an LS-6 that I used to own and while re-acquainting myself with build sheet I noticed it does not have the D88 stripe option. Was this common? It's code 48 jade green dk green interior. Since it's documented it will be re-done per the build sheet. Just don't recall seeing an LS-6 car without stripes. Any thoughts?

Re: LS-6 without stripes per build sheet is this odd
There are many that came w/o stripes originally, but you'd never know it,because everyone throws them on while restoring regardless.
1970 Super sports came automatically with the std. bulge hood, and D-88 band aid stripes & hood pins were not included with that. A buyer had to pay extra to add D-88 factory stripes to it. 1970 optional ZL-2 working flapper hood Chevelles' got the stripes & pins automatically included, unless the buyer opted to delete the stripes. I commend you for not putting stripes on it,as most cars with em today, never had em in the first place. I see yours came with an open element air cleaner too,so don't put a dual on saying it came with one,as some open element LS-6 owners do. Nicely optioned Chevelle. |

A lot of guys call these cars stripe delete
It was standard to get the car without the stripes and a domed hood with no hood pins. Anything on top of that was an option I agree with everything Mr.70 says above and restore the car exactly how it was built. Color is called Forest Green. Show us picks when you are all done. Here is a photo i had in my files, not Green interior but close to what your car should look like when done. I only had a back shot though. |

With so much talk about 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6... If all of the 1970 Chevelle SS owners on this site were at the Chevrolet dealership in 1969 with unlimited funds to either "BUY" or "ORDER" a 1970 Chevelle SS...what options would you all get? I don't know if it matters what time of the year to buy or order due to certain options that came out that year.
What would you get? What color interior/exterior combo's Any dare to get a 396? Dave 67 Nova Boy |
Re: LS-6 without stripes per build sheet is this odd
396 L78 convertible w/Aluminum heads...hands down.
Then there would've been 19 produced. |
Re: LS-6 without stripes per build sheet is this odd
454/450 H.P., black w/ black bench seat, or buckets w/no console, M22, no stripes, open element, 4.10, no options.
Ew, as mentioned below........radio delete! Could you opt for a 4.56 or 4.88 in '70? |

Re: LS-6 without stripes per build sheet is this odd
All though i love my own LS6 with Black Bucket Seats, M22, Posi, Black Vinyl roof, Am-8 Track, Gauges, Cowl Ind Etc...
If i can go back in time i would definetly have ordered a Cortez Silver LS6 with M22, Black Vinyl roof, Black Bench seat, Cowl Induction with Black Stripes, Gauges and 4:10 Posi Rear and no Radio ordered. |
Re: LS-6 without stripes per build sheet is this odd
Well, if I really knew my way around the dealer ordering and could get the factory to build it, I'd try to get a base model 13437 with a red cloth bench interior, rubber flooring, M-22 4-speed, black with cowl induction and no stripes, LS6, L89 heads, 4.10, black 15x8 wheels and dog dish caps, radio and heater delete.
I know they didn't have anything like this available, BUT I'd try. |
Re: LS-6 without stripes per build sheet is this odd
Not 100% sure of what color I'd pick as I'm torn between black with red int (no stripes), astro blue with white interior & white stripes, or shadow grey with black interior and black vinyl top and stripes, but regardless, it'd be an LS-6, M-22, 3.73s, and an AM/FM.

Re: LS-6 without stripes per build sheet is this odd
Allot of "No Stripes" Always thought that was the option to get other then the cowl hood/flap
M-22 is tops on the list for me. Tripple Black M-22 and 4:10 oh...I get the stripes! Dave 67 Nova Boy |
Re: LS-6 without stripes per build sheet is this odd

Re: LS-6 without stripes per build sheet is this odd
----My buddy, Bobs LS6 is my favorite as it is shadow grey with white gut and white stripes. Actually not quite shadow grey as the dark grey on his car was special ordered, but you get the picture. As far as options,,,Either stuff the car with them or just get the basics. One or the other for me!!!!!
----Oh,,,And Id take that in a 'vert with a white lid, please......Bill S |

I know he has a real build sheet for that car but do not remember what it says about the paint. Speaking of LS6's without stripes............wasn't the red LS6 he bought from you a non cowl, no stripe, no gauges, bench seat car? I remember the night you brought that over to the house when it had the aftermarket wheels and tires on it back in the day (+/- 1985??). First (and only) LS6 I ever drove - neat car. Sorry for the hijack.......... Jake |
Re: LS-6 without stripes per build sheet is this odd
I have a Van Nuys build sheet with "CODE 17 TAUPE" written near the bottom and F&SO LO268 1001AA is typed above it. Box 44 simply has a hand written "SPECIAL" in it. This particular (Shadow Grey) car also has white stripes on it.

Re: LS-6 without stripes per build sheet is this odd
----Yup, Jake!! That red 70 was about the lightest optioned LS6 I ever saw. The weird part was the white vinyl top. Had the car three days and Bob relieved me of it....Bill S
