I know that there is someone who reproduces the the VIN sticker for the door on ebay. Does anyone have the link or know of someone? I would like one for Tone Blue. Almost finished with the beast!
Thanks, Jed |

Re: VIN sticker for inside door
Jed...I'm pretty sure these stickers did not appear on Novas until the 70 model year..so if you are talking about a 69 car...I don't think you need it. All of the survivor 69 Novas I have seen did not have the sticker.

Re: VIN sticker for inside door
ECS Automotive makes the most correct version I have seen, if your car came with one originally. It is called a Conformance Decal and was just a government mandated decal that showed the date of manufacture and the VIN and in some case weight of the vehicle.
http://www.ecsautomotive.com/product...co=g&id=21 You have to call them to order the exact model and you need your data for them to make it. |
Re: VIN sticker for inside door
If you are linking to the blue rectangular sticker with the clear overlay, that was a '70 thing - not used in '69.

Re: VIN sticker for inside door
I just saw a "survivor", (not my description), but nonetheless, '69 Camaro with a late build that had the blue door jamb sticker. I couldn't look at the sticker very well due to recent back surgery and I can't bend down, BUT it WAS there and it was original paint in that jamb.
And, yes, there are several ways to get them. Some are blank, some are typed, some are typed with the exact font. Now, back to the Camaro and the blue tag, I thought it was '70 and later thing to, but I'm also under the impression it was on cars produced after a certain date; I do not know that exact date. I didn't record the VIN of the Camaro, but I remember the "last six" being REAL late. I think the trim tag says "09C of'69-NOT'68". I bought a blank one for my '72 Olds frame-off and had my sister type the info. It turned out almost identical to the original---I got lucky with the font. My car has some aftermarket upgrades, so the exact font wasn't that big of a deal to me, but I gotta tell you, it's dead on. If you are doing a "numbers type" car, you may want to do some more research, my '69 Olds (1968 build) does NOT have that sticker, so again, you may want to do some research. I'm sure there are more guys here that know more about that than me. |
Re: VIN sticker for inside door
i can confirm late <span style="text-decoration: underline">69 Camaro cars </span>have the sticker and the door is designed to provide the position of the sticker. I have a mid sept car and a very late oct car with both having the stickers.

wilma </div></div> Jedi On Camaros they did start showing up around Aug 69, would assume it was a gradual phase in across the GM line for the 70 model. What is the built month Jed ? Mike |
Re: VIN sticker for inside door
It's possible they are on some late '69 Novas as well, but it's generally a '70+ thing (and not a Jan '70 thing, but rather a full year '70 thing).

Re: VIN sticker for inside door
Stickers started first week of August on the Camaros. One would expect it to have started with the reset of the ident number, but not necessarily.
Car 671122 did not get the sticker even though it had a low (reset) ident number. Car 671208 did get the sticker. That is John Berry's old white Z/28 pictured in Jerry's book. Both cars were 08A builds. The ribs on the door started earlier in the summer in preparation for the decal. It was not required on any 69 vehicle other than the extended production Camaro and Corvette which had to comply with all the 70 federal regs. I would be surprised to see it on a 69 Nova, even a late one. |
Re: VIN sticker for inside door
So Jed, ...... anything else you need to know about a Camaro?

Re: VIN sticker for inside door
I only brought up the Camaro stats because Camaros were addressed.
If the Nova in question is a 69 (haven't memorized Jed's cars) then it would not get the sticker. |
Re: VIN sticker for inside door
The late 69 camaros got the stickers starting 08A. The Camaro production ran late in 69. An August built nova would be a 1970.

Re: VIN sticker for inside door
Here again guys I am glad I asked this question here. My car is an 05D build. So its Bday is coming up. Ha! I know my 12/69, 70 Nova has one in the jamb. ButI guess I thought that this Nova had one for some reason?? And I did not take any pics of the door on the driver's side. Somehow I could have sworn that it did have one but the VIN was towards the top and the date was at the bottom? Ipposite of what is on my 70 Nova. I am most likely mistaken. Oh well, the GM embossed sticker stays then, no VIN. I will definately take everyones expertise on this wether Nova or Camaro. Geeez, I have too many cars!
Thanks again for everyones help! I know I can use the VIN stickers on my other Novas. |
Re: VIN sticker for inside door
Jed...FYI: I'm pretty sure the GM "embossed sticker" was not a 69 item either...I believe 68 or maybe 67 was the last year.

Re: VIN sticker for inside door
I agree Tom. No embossed tag on the door of my Jan built '69 NOVA either.

Re: VIN sticker for inside door
Yea, I think you're right---you are referring to the blue square GM sticker correct? My'69 Olds W-31 doesn't have one. I kinda like them, but technically I think that they stopped in '68. I put one in my '72 442 just 'cause I had some new ones, but the jury is still out on whether it stays or not.

Re: VIN sticker for inside door
Its called a Federal Safety Certification Stickers or Nadar after Ralf Nadar. Required on 1970 model year and later vehicles. No speculation needed.

Re: VIN sticker for inside door
Hello Nova Jed,
VIN Certification Labels were first in the 1970 Model year as per federal regulations. (late 1969 Camaro was considered 1970 Model year for regulation purposes since they were made after the normal model switch date.) Look at the metal on the door. There is embossing that was added above and below the VIN cert on the 1970 Model Year Nova. This embossing would not be there on an original 1969 Model Nova door. Be interested in any late 1969 and early 1970 Model year VINs to see if is was a soft switch or a hard switch of the door stamping. If you are looking at the VIN Certs repops keep in mind most of the typed in information just just not look right. There was also a difference in the type face of the printer between plants. Let me know if you need one closer to the originals. PS Did I ever ask you for is you 1970 have Welded on or Bolted on door hinges? Greg |
