123 VIN 69 Camaro - V8 Car ??

I was looking at a 69 Camaro yesterday and the owner had claimed that his brother has a numbers matching 123 VIN V8 1969 Camaro.

I have never heard of this happening - is there any truth to it being possible to have a 123 VIN V8 car?

For the Pontiac enthusiasts in the crowd can you explain what a "123 VIN" car is?

Thanks in advance -

1233 VIN is a 6 cylinder. 1243 is 8 cyl.

I bought a dirt cheap 113.. 1966 Chevy II 2dr sedan project car a week ago. A 3 as the third digit in the VIN means L6 and a 4 would have been a V8.
The seller said it was a factory 327 car and that the 327 he had on a pallet was original to the car.

There also was an original Copo with a convertible vin, strange things did happen at the Norwood plant.

What/where is the documented X11 Z/28? Are pics or docs here? I learned long ago, never say never, especially when it comes to cars. I have seen some weird stuff come off the hauler and have factory ordered some weirdos, too. I am interested in that Z and the COPO with the conv. VIN.

I had a 1969 Camaro SS 350 4sp with an x-22 and 6-7 tach. I bought the car from the original owners. Son's car, died in 1971, never touched since then. Both parents cried when they signed the title off after all those years. 100% orig. I had a couple Camaro gurus come over when I brought it home. Untouched car.

the x-11 Z has been at some car shows near here(bucks county, pa) in the past years. It is documented by Jerry M. and is known on the CRG database.

Problem is that with one off cars like this is they are the exception. Even if you can document the anomaly, if you ever go to resell it will be tough with all of the scams and stories out there.

If you buy one of these, do it because you really, really, like the car or you get it at the lower end of the spectrum

IMO, of course.

Good call Rich. It will ALWAYS be a question mark car.
If you haven't bought and read Phil's book, Echos of Norwood, you should. It is AMAZING what went down the line and did or didn't get built with. (http://www.norwoodassemblyplant.com/)

Hey Guys I was reading this post and the reference to the X11 Z28 and found this on the CRG site. The post is old, goes back to 2007. I was wondering about this myself until I read the post.

Note: I thought I could copy and paste the link to here but I'm new and must be doing it wrong. You all know what to do though to read it anyway.

Just click on the button on the toolbar on a new post (or reply) that looks like the world with a chain "link" at the bottom. Paste in your link and then type the name.

Good thread.. There is a ligit X-77 Z/28 that I know of... originally was built as an RS so they are out there.

The stories of factory anomalies are very true. There will be plenty of eyewitness accounts of 4 speed builds positioned on the final assembly line where a body was miss sequenced for an automatic.

Front end color sequence drops were common as well-- wrong seats etc.... Then off to AGR for repair IF the inspector caught the problem!

Attend the Norwood Gathering July 12-13 to meet the people and hear what happened first hand.

Agree - I know of at least one pickup truck we built that was a four speed trans but didn't have the floor cut out in the cab. The repair man chopped the hole in the floor with a hammer and chisel - while the line was still running and the cab was teetering on the chassis.

I can attest to a few of those, too; even front ends that were sequenced correctly but two toned wrong, or had the correct emblem on one side but the wrong nameplate on the other....

The OKC plant produced a Chevette with Chevette embems on one side and Pontiac T100 on the other.

----A bit off topic, but Jan (my way better half) used to work for Sunshine Bakery in route sales. When the automotive update came she received a Dodge Omni, or maybe she received a Plymouth Horizon. We still dont know, as one side of the car said Omni and the other side said Horizon. Cant remember what the registration said, so we called it the "Horomni". Or maybe we called it the "Omnizon".....Bill S
