Driveshaft Loop
What clever ideas have you guys come up with pertaining to a driveshaft loop? I should put one in my 67 Nova but do not want to start punching holes in my floor pan.
Thanks, Tim |

why do you think you need one
Tim? |
Re: Driveshaft Loop
I plan to race the car a little. I am assuming I would catch a little grief in tech. Not sure if an ET Street would be considered a street tire and hope like hell the car goes faster than 13.99

Re: Driveshaft Loop
Tim, if you're referring to ET Street bias ply tires, they are DOT approved so there shouldn't be any issues passing the "street tire" tech.

Re: Driveshaft Loop
I used on (can't remember the brand) that bolted to the trans mount. Very clean application. It came powder coated black and passes tech. and wasn't terribly expensive.

Re: Driveshaft Loop
Now that I think about it, The loop isn't mounted like I said in my last post---it was a few years ago when I installed it. I did have to drill holes, but I remember it being a clean installation and it was powder coated black and fit the floor perfectly. It definitely is one piece and passed tech. for sure. I'd have to dig up the paperwork, I have it somewhere. I'm sorry this isn't much help, now, but it wasn't a hack-job.

Re: Driveshaft Loop
Try Caruso Performance. They have one that DOES bolt to the tranny mount. It may not work with your particular trans. I used one of them in a later build and my mind was (again) playing tricks on me. Sorry for the confusion, but within the last 3 years I've built 2 different cars with Small-block Olds, 4-speeds, with similar drivetrains.

Re: Driveshaft Loop
Need a loop for a street tire class? Does it have to go a certain ET or MPH?

Re: Driveshaft Loop
If you go faster then a 11:50 ET. You need a drive shaft loop. If you only do nosta races, they never check for those items? The Dutchman

Driveshaft loop requied: With slicks = 13.99 or quicker Street tires = 11.49 or quicker Or when running any NHRA class, regardless of tire/et if it's a rear wheel drive car Or depending on the race organization [PSMCDR requires them for 13.99 or quicker] Steve Caruso [] makes the bolt on loops [bolts to crossmember] loops for several different applications for the Pure Stock guys...mine is an old Indian River bolt on loop, similar to what Caruso is building [except his seems to be more upscale]. |
Re: Driveshaft Loop
I have one of the versions that bolts between the tailshaft and crossmember, still new in the box - if anyone needs one at a reasonable price. Never installed it on the Deuce, and probably never will.....

Re: Driveshaft Loop
If any of you have ever had a driveshaft break you would all put them in ... My self in the 69 Nova SS Big Block 1st time it broke those straps on the rearend yolk and the next time it twisted the driveshaft into in the middle of it the car went 11.07 dragin the driveshaft with 4:11 gears and exhaust ... Both times I had a driveshaft loop and it helped save the tunnel ... That just my experience so I say drill some holes or what ever just stay safe....
