ORIGINAL 837 ALT ?
I BOUGHT THIS FROM A OLD ALT & STARTER REBUILDER THAT IS CLOSING THE DOORS AFTER 48 YEARS . LOOKS LIKE Ahttps://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...lt_837_002.jpg
ORIGINAL TO ME ???? |
Re: ORIGINAL 837 ALT ?
Looks like a restamp to me. Fonts on a lot of the characters are wrong. Area all around the stamping looks reworked as well. Hopefully you didn't pay much for it.

Re: ORIGINAL 837 ALT ?
looks ok to me, I would have to compare it with one from the same timeframe ...

Re: ORIGINAL 837 ALT ?
it looked like it was sitting on the shelf for sometime it is rebuilt paid $20.00 for it . no fan or pulley on it

Re: ORIGINAL 837 ALT ?
Nobody would 'fake' one and sell it for $20...I'd bet its a gennie......

Re: ORIGINAL 837 ALT ?
There's a lot wrong with this one pictured compared to a real 837 alt I have here in the shop dated the same day. The first problem is the spacing of the date code characters. The other problems are with the 8's 3's and 7's. The D is also different. The feet on the 1's are too short and the list goes on and on. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...1-dsc00892.jpg

Re: ORIGINAL 837 ALT ?
The stamping on the alternator looks consistent with the restamps that 'wilma99' was peddling on Ebay.

Re: ORIGINAL 837 ALT ?
To add to what Chris said, the 2 zeros really look off on ALLZS alt.
They should be wider. Here's a restamp from Wilma99 with the incorrect narrower zeros too.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-Z-28-SS-Cam...=item417291e459 Look at the depth of the last 2 characters (top A & bottom G) on Chris's original, compared to ALLZS. |

Re: ORIGINAL 837 ALT ?
How does an old alt shop end up with a Wilma core? I remember when some people here looked at my Born with DZ stampings and said they must be fake, 'they look too good...'
[they were real] |
