1969 L78 Fan Clutch

How many variants were used for model year 1969 Camaros? I think I know what the Eaton clutch looked like but, were Schweitzer 'bar type' clutches used on the assembly line in 1969, for L78 applications? If so, what did they look like? Anyone have a pic they can share?

Thanks,

Mark

Mike

If you say that is correct for 69, that's good enough for me. I'll buy it.

Thnx for the pic, Rick.

As far as I know, they used both types on Camaro.

I've never seen a Schweitzer on a 69, just Eaton and Delco.

The fan clutch looks foreign to me.

Kurt,

The configuration of the Delco on CRG, specifically the outer portion, would also be correct for 69 L78/L89?

Thanks,

Mark

Gents, wouldn't the same application(s) be used on a Z28?

I thought I had a dated Schweitzer clutch on a 04C COPO Camaro I restored some years ago, I have no pictures of it. Is that possible on the L72 ?

Eaton Fan clutch on a Z, but it had a longer shaft and was stamped CV. L78 and COPO was CZ and had a shorter shaft.

Z couldn't get a Delco stamped CZ?

I've never seen a 1969 delco stamped CZ. Just Delco's stamped CH.

Mike,
The original owner Berger Copo I saw a few years ago also had a Scweitzer clutch. It was a very original car with 45k miles.

Thanks Mark, might be the L72, from talking to Grady all his 69 Vettes got them.

Eaton was on the hi-po stuff - maybe it had higher rpm capability than the Delco.

I think there may have been 3 lengths, but maybe it was only 2.
I've always wanted to include the measurements with the fan info, if anyone has any of the measurements.

I have 2 Scwietzer short shaft clutches - one dated March '69 and the other dated May '69.

Didn't the high performance Corvettes in 1969 use the Scwietzer fan clutch?

Hello Bergey,

I am interested in purchasing your March 69 fan clutch if you are interested in selling it.
We talked twice last year once when you brought your COPO to the Reading area AACA meet then at the Supercar work shop " Solid lifter showroom at Carslie.
If you do not want to sell the fan clutch -could you send me photos and measurements so I know what to look for.
Thank you

Re: 1969 L78 Fan Clutch

This is the exact Schweitzer 'bar type' fan clutch originally installed on my 1967 327 / 350 horse L-79 Corvette #3231, built November of 1966. It was dated September ? 1966 and I could only show the car with it or the car would overheat in traffic with it installed. I assume it was also used on the 1967 Z-28 also. Anyone know what an Eaton "FC" fan clutch fits?

Bill

Fred - I'll email you pics.

I was just digging through my fan clutches and noticed a Schweitzer part number 02674SC (as best I can tell). small fan bolt circle. It's never been mounted - any idea what it fits?

As it turns out I did find a picture of it. 04C COPO Camaro with 17,000 miles. There is another 03E COPO Camaro being restored in the area with 43K miles and it has it's OE Schweitzer clutch on it. I will try and get a photo.
