Filter Foam for a Fly Eye Air Cleaner???
 

I have 2 really nice original Motion Style / Fly Eye Air Cleaners, but both of the foam elements are less than perfect as a result from carb back fires. Does anyone know of or have a source for replacement foam elements? Big Thanks!

Pretty sure edelbrock carries them. Triangular shaped, right?

No, its the large, round, flat 1" thick, black, foam element not the triangular one.

I had a brand new Mr Gasket replacement element from 1978, sitting in the package in my room in my parent's house for the past 35 years. I went to check on it it and the package was still there, with the shrink wrap attached, but the foam had turned to dust and was all at the bottom of the card.

There is a guy on eBay selling replacement filters for these air cleaners. But just like the old ones these can be somewhat flammable (just as some of the old fellers that melted theirs). When I bought my replacment I talked with the gentleman and he said he was working on getting non-flammable material.
Keep in mind he has a 1/2 thick and 1/4" thick version depending on the manufacture of the air cleaner. Below is a link (click on it) to one of his auctions.

There's a local racer here in my area that runs one on his '66 Fairlane. He uses two thin layers of material in his: one appears to be Scotchbrite type material with a layer of foam on top. Probably about ¾&quot; total thickness but it compresses enough to get the snap ring in place. Don't know how it would handle a &quot;flash&quot; though. [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif[/img]

I have been using a <span style="font-weight: bold"> </span> UNI <span style="font-weight: bold"> </span> universal filter foam <span style="font-weight: bold"> </span> BF-4 <span style="font-weight: bold"> </span> (12&quot;X16&quot;X3/8&quot; 60PPI Black Fine Foam). Ordered it from my local motorcycle shop. The manufacturer also recommends using a filter oil on the foam. I use <span style="font-weight: bold"> </span> Spectro SX Air Filter Oil, also from the motorcycle shop.

I made mine using the foam filter material sold at Lowes. It's used against the face of window type A/C units. 4 years and have never had a problem.

Hi guys, thanks for all the suggestions. Not in a panic timewise, so have saved the ebay link as one option, but will also explore a couple of the methods mentioned. Yup i agree 100% with Hemicolt.Frost King AC filter only a few bucks from lowes .They are fuel proof been using them for a few years .You can make 2 elements from 1 package.Copy and paste link to lowes page with the filters .

So.... I guess if that had been in the air cleaner, all those dust particles would have been deteriorating over time and ended up going through the engine.

I tell my wife i don't have a drinking problem i just need more boxes for storage ..PBR or miller high life are my goto beers .Still love your PBR sign ..

LOL.. That only a few of them .I find one or more at ever swap meet i goto .Its become a on running joke .Fast67 is not helping by buy me everyone he finds ..Now you know who to goto if you need one or 10 .
