My 70 LS-6 project
Hi every one.
I'm Ian and thought I would stop by and introduce myself and the progress of my restoration of my 70 LS-6 . If interested I have the photos of the day I got the car, disassembly and documentation of parts and progress thus far. I would also like to say that there is a wealth of knowledge and respect for other members here that I didn't see at another famous Chevelle site where I got the "yellow bullet" treatment. Look forward to sharing. |

I no longer post that much on Team Chevelle as i find this web site awnsers my question more quickly without the BS i find at the other place. Re: My 70 LS-6 project
Welcome Ian,
I just recently found sYc, and love it. sYc is a very helpful, respectful, and exciting website. There are some expert level 70 Chevelle guys asking for pictures, hit the fifth button from the left and show these guys what we are dealing with here. (advice is usually free but in this case these guys advice is priceless) Ryan I posted a few 79 LS6 pics from Floyd Garrett's Muscle car Museum to stave the 70 guys. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...icture_149.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...icture_223.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...icture_148.jpg |
Re: My 70 LS-6 project
That LS6 has the incorrect repro cable holder clips that hold the hood pin cables.
They should be the 1/8 white clips not the brown ones that come in the repro kit. Other wise correct and beautifull. sorry for nit picking. |
Re: My 70 LS-6 project
"the yellow bullet treatment".LOL.Too funny.Welcome Ian.This is a great forum.Just make sure your positive battery cable is exactly 9.6 degrees.;)

Rick, You were actually the one who helped me 8 or so years ago on TC site. You told me how to get the crayon marks off the fire wall with out ruining them I look forward to starting on it again after a 5 year hiatus of building cars for others. |

Aw yes, December of 2005. I don't believe the photo of the Fathom Blue car is yours but is built exactly the same as I recall. The firewall photo is of your car however. I would love to see the progress. If you shoot me the photos I can post them for you if you have any troubles.

Re: My 70 LS-6 project
Here are some great pics of the body by some one that knows how to use a camera better than the bafoon typing this.
His name is Jay Doerfler and owns Auto Body Specialists in Manchester NH, A restoration only shop that specializes in all makes/models. Jay made me have the car media blasted again and hand sanded every inch top, bottom, inside and out, leaded the quarter panel seams and even repaired past driveshaft shrapnel holes and a hole where an imbecile hacked a hole for a 4 speed with a claw hammer. (I resemble that remark) Any way Jay did a great job and not only is he a great friend, photographer and restoration mechanic......He is watching.... Re: My 70 LS-6 project
Extremely nice body for a Leeds car. Nice to see more evidence of the odd rosette red primer used on Leeds cars that I have been chastized over many times as being incorrect on the Leeds cars I restored. Nice to see it did in fact happen. Keep the great photos and progress going.

Re: My 70 LS-6 project
Wow, amazing work. I love your attitude and humility, lol, because I have been there before when I didn't know whether to cry or swear and ended up doing both.
Keep the pics coming, love it, thanks. |
Re: My 70 LS-6 project
Thanks Rick,It means a lot coming from a guru as yourself.
As for the red primer just when something is considered the rule an exception shows up. On another note, Quite a few differences in assembly practices from what ive seen in my KC, Bal, Atl and Osh built cars which are all 70's. Also did you notice the red sprayed in material where the door hinges meet the cowl? It was hard as a rock and had to be persuaded off, almost like it was used to hold the threaded adj plate in place. |
Re: My 70 LS-6 project
Mark, Thanks for the complement.
This is a labor of love for most of us that do our own work and certainly not for the loot that was consumed while doing it. |
Re: My 70 LS-6 project
Simply amazing craftsman ship. I do all my own work. To see that body without a spec of paint on it just boggles my mind. I can't imagine how much time went into this step. Was that all done with a scotch brite pad?
