Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
Every component that could be restamped on this car was. At least he posted all the pics of everything so a buyer will hopefully get advice prior to purchasing it.

Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
Very strange engine pad stamp.
|
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
All I can say (again) is wow! Sadly, some unsuspecting individual will buy this thinking it is real.
|
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
I think there aren't many unsuspecting individuals left out there buying LS-6 ragtops...Seller never says any of the right words like 'born with' or 'documented.
Numbers matching doesn't mean what it used to mean. I think most buyers at this level understand this. |
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
Some of those restamps are the worst that I have ever seen. (Transmission, alternator, and rear end especially)
|
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
Incorrect color for stripes as Forest Green was only offered with white stripes.
Love the sticker on the fan shroud Very obvious re-stamped parts |

Documenting the VIN# for posterity.

There are build sheets out there indicating such with special order...........never say never, right Rick? Understanding that most any documentation can be replicated these days ......still why would anyone consider such a model without an original BS or window sticker? |
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
What is the "3 X " on the top right of the trim tag ?

It is a characteristic of the Baltimore Trim Tags. |

I went on three inspections this year where someone paid big money for what they thought was a real LS6 convert. Two of these individuals have huge collections and are very knowledgable but not on LS6's and both got badly stung. I just wish they would check with us BEFORE they buy. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> As I learned in the last year you could get stripe colors other than "offered" on these. Not only the one I posted for you but a more recent Black Cherry with black stripes and "D88 Stripe painted black per F&SO" on the build sheet. Just sold from Ill and headed out east. |
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
At least he is asking clone money for it.
|
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
Still a nice looking vert, great color combo, IMO, available that way from the factory or not.
Clone money to me is in the 45 - $70KUS range. If I could get it for that the look on my buddies' faces when I baked the tread off those bogus ply tires would be priceless. "How can you do that to such a rare and expensive piece?" they would ask. Of course, only then would I come clean. And the attention it would get at donuts derelicts? Oh, yeah. I have seen (and mistakenly bought) some restamped items that were not detectable to the naked eye. I would have rather had the items presented to me easily determined to be restamps so I could have not made the mistake. But for $65KUS I would be all over this car, you just could not produce one, a "tribute" of this caliber, for that. |
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
Actually.. to me... That would be the car I would buy over a real LS6 convertible.. A real one is just too damn valuable and rare to drive and enjoy.. I think its an ideal situation to be in.. Real good clone to drive and enjoy.

Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
I know the owner of this car. He is an honest guy who believes the car is real. Of course I never saw it before he restored it, or how much he started off with before he got into it. Says he does not have much paperwork for the car, which of course is necessary for one of these cars.
|
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
David,
With the difference between "real" money and "clone" money being as significant as it is in this case, I have to wonder why your friend has not gone to the extremes in finding past owners with the money and paper trails to come up with some evidence it is indeed the real deal. Did he consider hiring a Chevelle expert to provide any physical attributes of the car as he started with it, or someone familiar with DMV research? There had to have been configuration indications it was a big block versus a 307 car. No documentation, no owner history, and chock full o' restamps kind of speaks for itself. Just my opinion here, nothing more. |
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
He even restamped the 837 alternator... wow.
|
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
Car was at Mecum in Indy this May.......no sale, bid up to $85,000.

Did he actually do the restoration or did he hire somebody to do it?? If he did hire somebody, who was it?? |
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
The owner John, has a collision/resto shop about 15 miles from ours. I never asked about what he began with, specifics to the car, or validity to it's origins. Just asked him about the progress as he'd visit our shop for new parts he put on the car. FYI He did not get any of those stamped items from us! For all I know he could have been taken when he purchased the vehicle. Would definitely be interesting to find out what previous history he does have for the car. Hopefully for his sake it's not fraudulent paperwork!

Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
Been a Car guy for ever and Have to say, thats the WORST STAMP JOB on the Block I have ever seen!!!!!!!
|
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
Trans build date (P0B12C) 2nd week of Feb., but the main case was cast the 1st week March...
Nice trick, build the trans before the main case was cast... (and they used the wrong font) Things that make you go HMM... Crash |
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
I've never seen the car before and I live 3 min away from Getzville NY
|
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
I looked this car over very closely in July at the Northern Chevelle Gathering in Niagara Falls. Aside from the black stripes, ALL of the stamps on it are hokey. The engine stamp is one of the worst I have ever seen. There are also a ton of incorrectness on it. I did talk to John, the owner and he claims to have done the car himself or in his shop. I could have bombarded it with what was wrong but I didn't want to get into that discussion.

Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
Nice car, but it's borderline comical that every stampable part has been restamped. I guess I can't comment on the starter, but everything else....
|
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
How do you read that date?
Thanks |
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
I assumed that was it....just didn't no how to decipher it. Looked in Colvin's book but it refers to date codes in a circle. I guess the 3 dots = march (3rd month) and the one dot = 1st week...what do the first 4 dots mean??
Also, the partial VIN stamp...shouldn't the first digit be a "1" for Chevrolet...it looks like a 7 |
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
I am going to go out on a limb here and say that there is a dot for each week in the corresponding 12 boxes?
|
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
Makes sense...perhaps Crash will confirm.
|
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
Firstgenaddict, Hit the nail on the head...
The grid has 6 boxes in a row on top and a row of 6 boxes below, top row is Jan. to June left to right, bottom row July to Dec. left to right, the dots are the weeks of the month that the case was cast... Hope this helps... Crash |
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
So why are the dots in three of the grid boxes, which should each be separate months.
Jan, Feb, March? |
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
Continued use of the same mold throughout the year?
Punch marks in the mold show up as dots on the case. |

Jan, Feb, March? </div></div> If I understood correctly: One dot = first week week of the particular month Two dots = second week of the particular month etc........ One box = one month, starting left to right at upper left with January one dot in third upper box = 1st week March casting Jake |
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
The owner says he got it as a basket case and he has the title history to 1975.
I'm surprized the car has gotten to over 90K with so many obvious restamps and no paperwork. Owner and high bidder have 0 history.I would think as a well done clone that 75K would be tops in todays market. Nice looking car. |
Re: LS6 vert on ebay. Not mine
I may be stating what should be obvious, but no way would I bid against a brand new to eBay bidder for a high dollar item being sold by a zero feedback seller. Crazy. Looks like he was bidding it up to me. Just my opinion here, nothing more.
And what do you bet now comes the ten second chance offers from all over Nigeria. Oh yeah, Western Union only accepted. |
