Power Brute Super T-10 with a 2:88 first gear is better then the Rockcrusher... |
Re: day two shifters
But some people just like that "whine" with their cheese!
|
Re: day two shifters
I remember all the Bad Ass street 4-speed cars had the Ram Rod or a Verti-Gate in them.

Re: day two shifters
It's interesting to know that Mr. Gasket had the first commercially available "straight-line" shifter and it won a prize at SEMA in the early Seventies when it debuted. The Hurst version was released about six months later.

Re: day two shifters
Yes but in my opinion the hurst ram rod is a far superior shifter

Re: day two shifters
Wow that's awesome! Never seen a Fenton with reverse loc out thanks for sharing! Keep the pictures coming guys

Re: day two shifters
That Fenton is a pretty cool shifter. I loved the attention my vertigate used to get at cars shows. What's with the two shifters? This one looks like it would fit a console easier. Nice!

Mark, I have an article on the Ram Rod and from what I understand it was made years before but as you stated, it wasn't readily available until later on. Below is a picture of my Ram Rod and boot. Kurt https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...st_ram_rod.jpg |
Re: day two shifters
nice kurt! have you noticed that the very early ramrods have a flat blade chrome reverse stick and the late ones have a round black stick.

Re: day two shifters
What years are the ones with the chrome reverse handle? I don't know why, but I thought they were later ones
|
Re: day two shifters
Here are some pictures of the September Hot Rod magazine. It does have the flat reverse handle that mr.4speed mentions.
It states "The most recent new offering from Hurst Performance isn't exactly new to them. The in-line-pattern Ram Rod shifter for drag racers hit the dealers' stands in June of this year, but the first prototype was fashioned by George Hurst in 1959. That '59 model lay dormant for nearly a dozen years until the gang in Warminster Pa, decided to give the idea over for that relatively small segment of the shifter market who operate their four-speeds only over a sanctioned drag-strip." https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use..._shifter_2.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use..._shifter_3.jpg |
Re: day two shifters
It talks about "No gates to pass or press across" which I'm thinking they are comparing it to the V-Gate.

Re: day two shifters
i have a hurst catalog from 74 and it shows the round stick.
plus it seems that one out of every twenty or so on ebay has the flat stick so leeds me to believe less available means earlier. |
Re: day two shifters
Check out the April 1971 Hot Rod for the scoop on the Mr. Gasket race shifter. There was a mad rush between the two companies to be the first to market a straight line shifter.
|
Re: day two shifters
I'm just guessing here, but I would think the round stick was probably more cost effective, since it was welded onto the plate.

Re: day two shifters
My old 1964 F85 drag car ran a Vertigate. Awesome shifter.

Re: day two shifters
that's so cool!! talk about your spartan dash! sweet snorkel scoop too!
|
Re: day two shifters
Yeah, it was a killer old race car and really well built. A yenko.net member owns it now and did a great job freshening it up. Maybe we can convince him to start a new thread....

Re: day two shifters
Looking forward to it!

Re: day two shifters
