"Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
Hey Guys and Gals,
You may know me as "The barn find guy" or "The Automotive Archaeologist". I recently ran the "Barn Find" section at MCACN. I had this gentleman contact me about his "barn find" (might be a stretch though). He sent me some pictures as he rolled it out of his barn over the weekend. I wanted to get your opinion on it. It is the last 1969 Yenko Camaro made. Bought from, V.V. Cooke, in Louisville,KY. You can see the cob webs in the pictures of the under carriage. As I was told, all the numbers match. The only things non original are the usual things...tires, belts hoses. He did put a stainless exhaust system under it when he freshened it up, cleaned and painted the frame and bottom of the car as well as putting the original engine back in around 1986. He left the scattershield on from his racing days. It had a bigger engine in it for a while in the 70's, but still never drove it much. The paint and the interior are original,as is the vinyl top. It is not, a perfect car. It has chips here and there in the paint along with a small amount of rust under the lower edge of the top. Original owner car, says he has all paperwork but the window sticker. What do you guys think? What's it worth? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...o/DSC08825.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...o/DSC08826.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...o/DSC08827.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...o/DSC08854.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...o/DSC08853.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...o/DSC08862.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...o/DSC08866.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...o/DSC08868.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...o/DSC08867.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...o/DSC08884.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...o/DSC08855.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...o/DSC08876.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...o/DSC08883.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...o/DSC08883.jpg More pictures here. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v5...enko%20Camaro/ Let me know. Thought that too...looks like 120 speedo...?... |
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
Not a big deal but doesn't the upper alternator bracket looks like a '70?

Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
I tried convincing him to bring the car to the MACN show this year but he is too busy. He still drives the car and recently brought the car to work with his weed eater sticking out of the trunk. A customer and his son were looking at the car wondering if it was real. They couldn't believe he was driving it. He told them that's his car and his weed eater!
It never had a 140 speedo, who knows why. It is worth a lot of money thats for sure, one of a handful of original owner Yenko Camaros known. |
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
I've been talking with the owner for a few days. He just wants to get an idea of what people are thinking about the car and what it is worth.
I showed him pictures from MCACN. He was impressed. Ryan |
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
Ryan, great to meet you at MCACN (and yes I did track down the owner of the yellow corvette in barn finds section:)) - thanks for bringing us this Yenko story - they are still out there.

It was nice to meet you as well. By the time I got with him, he said he had talked with you. This one isn't one of my "barn finds" though. This is a running, driving car that has just been out of the spotlight for a while. Thanks again, Ryan |
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
1968 style 427 emblems , they were used on some 69 Yenko Chevelles but normally the 69 Y Camaros had the 427 with the bar

Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
This is a good "learning" car - since we have the original owner to speak to the facts:
1. Center fuel gauge means tach was OE - but two panel SW gauge - why not 3 panel? 2. This car is VIN 12437N681343. It's a later (09A) build. The body number is 107791. Since Yenko ordered cars in a batch - were all late cars assigned body numbers after the roll over? Neat car - not being critical - just learning & observing. maybe one of the experts can chime in & the owner can contribute. |
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
should be 124379N681343 - typo on the 9.

Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
I know the car and never thought he'd sell it. It maybe the last Original Owner 69 Yenko Camaro .
Mike |
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
I think he enjoys the car too much to sell it. It is not the last one owner Yenko Camaro that exists, there are still a few more of them out there!
A great car and story, certainly worth more than $ 200k. |

Mike </div></div> Bill from Arizona still has his Daytona Yellow car. He got it as a "warranty" replacement from the dealer after the he blew up the motor in a Le Mans Blue one after about three days of ownership. |
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
I believe Bill's first Camaro was Hugger Orange, maybe still owned by Mick Price.
Several original owners still have their cars. |
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
I'll never forget when I first met Bill with his yellow Yenko Camaro at one of the Yenko Reunions years ago. He gave me his original paperwork to make copies at Kinkos. He had the original invoice for the orange car he had first bought at Gates in Indiana. He also had the Gates $150 trade in document for his return of the orange Yenko Camaro and purchase of the yellow Yenko Camaro which he still owns. He said the orange car started knocking at 140! Not exactly a gentle break in for that car!
The best part of the day was when Mick showed up with the orange Yenko Camaro that Bill bought new. He must be the only original owner who bought 2 new Yenko Camaros in '69. |
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
I was lucky to be at that same reunion where I met you, Mark. You referred me to Warren D & he had 5 pages of orig Yenko dealership document's for my car....extreemly helpful since the vin was incorrectly listed on Donna Mae's handwritten list. Grateful for that and your help & guidance on N616128 you gave me as well

Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
check out those original panels gaps in the trunk ,rear deck lid area .THE WAY AN ORIGINAL WAS BUILT
|
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
200k ??? I'll take it !! I believe this car would easily fetch north of 300k if 're-freshened up' correctly, (maybe 'un-freshened up' a bit to look more original and un-detailed) and presented at a major auction house !!
...just my .02 Sweet Car By the Way !!!! |
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
I hear ya on the "un-freshening". I have the car pictured on my post and the P/O thought he was improving things that I had to "un-improve". My car, while not in the same category as this Yenko, does have less that 10k original miles and mostly original paint. Sometimes, un-doing things can be harder than doing it right.

Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
i would leave it the way it is

Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
the car's I owned were all 03B with bdy #'s in the 2198XX range this is an 05A with bdy #107791. Wouldn't an 05A have a later bdy # than the (2nd order) March cars?
Not suggesting that anything's amiss as I believe Mark B's statement, just curious. I always thought... the later the build, the higher the bdy# Terrific driver/survivor Yenko |
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
Does the car have the Blue VIN sticker on the door jam?

Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
Body #'s were reset to 100000 in Aug. '69 due to extended '69 model year production.
09A is exactly right for this Vin. (CRG Info) ~ Pete |

Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
.... so this is the "last 1969 Yenko Camaro that was BUILT" ..... It would be interesting to know which was the "last 1969 Yenko Camaro that was SOLD !" |
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
We had a row of the unsold Camaros at the rear of the used car lot ( mostly orange and green )when the 70 1/2 Camaros came out . I know they were eventually sold at a discount, to dealers and private parties. They were just seen as unsold inventory...who knew !
|
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
As above, Body #'s were reset due to the extended '69 model year production.
Normal procedure at GM plants was changeover end of July and new model year line production beginning in August but in 1969 GM was having problems w/ some new for '70 style components so Fisher Body reset the #'s and Norwood continued producing '69 Camaros into November 1969. Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
thanks for sharing that. As far as me seeing a 5 instead of a 9, guess it's time for reading glasses.
Now, I don't see the normal tach or mounting holes in the dash...wondering if it has the punch in the firewall, sold without a tach or maybe it was mounted on the right side |
Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
Everything after 06A had the in dash tach and center fuel gauge..

Re: "Barn Find" The Last 69 Yenko Camaro......
Not any more. Deal is done and headed to new owner/collector. Will likely get cleaned up, issues fixed and then driven. Hopefully full restoration in the next couple of years.

I just opened it again OK. Maybe its your settings or maybe as the link came through me in Aust? Beats me. ..on another note, this Yenko had a 120mph speedo. Was there a delay during COPO production before GM and Yenko had the package for the 140 speedo etc? Some cars had the 120mph. Were other Yenkos that were shipped to other dealers fitted with the package? cheers Dave |
