Re: Vintage salvage pool sheets. Neat info
There is a bunch of Ford, GM, & Mopar sheets. The Mopar stuff is going out already. If there is a registry that wants them I'll gladly send them out. If not, dumpster time!
One of the pics is a 68 Chevy II mis-listed as a '66. |
Re: Vintage salvage pool sheets. Neat info
wow, cool, I will take them if no one else wants them
the Camaros BOTH had shackles on the back ... |
Re: Vintage salvage pool sheets. Neat info
If the VIN's are on the Camaro ones, I'll take them.
Or even better - Jim can have them if he scans them for me! |

Interesting stuff. I'm confused by the title, though: why are they called "pool" sheets? K |

Re: Vintage salvage pool sheets. Neat info
Wonder how many of these have come back as low mileage one owner cars?

Re: Vintage salvage pool sheets. Neat info
Some of those cars look nasty. RIP in the 69 Mach1

Re: Vintage salvage pool sheets. Neat info
Salvage pool is not a salvage yard. It is sometimes called the insurance pool (or at least it was back in 1971).
It is where most of the insurance companies have the cars towed. They stay in that yard temporarily and are bid on by salvage yards, and sometimes rebuilders. Supposed to be closed bidding back then, but there was always some funny business. Right after high school I worked for a guy who would buy two mustangs at a time, one hit in front, and one hit in back. He would remove the windshield, cut the a piller and across the floor pan, weld them together. Always told the buyers the car had been hit, but they seldom figured out where. The weld job across the bottom wasn't that great, but undercoating was pretty common at the time and would hide a lot. One day while at the pool, I spotted a silver 69 Z with black stripes. Still had the POP in the glove box. I knew the car. It had been stolen from the Seltzer Chevrolet used car lot (Seltzer sold ZL1 #61 I believe) and the engine tranny and front seats removed. Then they rolled it into the lake. I bought it for $246.52. Rebuilt it in my spare time, put in a punched out 283 and that was my first Z. Had $780 in it when completed. |
Re: Vintage salvage pool sheets. Neat info
When Jim gets the sheets and get them scanned in I hope you'll be able to see all of the sheet. Hand written along the bottom of some of them is the price they sold for and a lot of the cars sold for less than $100.

Re: Vintage salvage pool sheets. Neat info
Those are very cool and w/ Vin details could still lead to something good.
The Fords shown are just 302 and 351 cars but it's always best look at any engine digit Vins including Mopars etc. Cool Z story Lynn! We used to do the A-pillar/floor cut clips too and done correctly were clean fixes. Lots were low mile 70's X-body cars and we'd use whatever nice parts were available sometimes leaving the resulting mixed styles...Novas/Omegas w/ Ventura/Apollo noses etc. Most people didn't notice or give a care and occasionally I'd spot these crossbreeds later on the street. the 'A' in this VIN must be a typo? . |

~ Pete </div></div> You are correct. When done right, there is no practical difference between one of those cars a one that has never been hit. And it is way better than one that had to have sheet metal replacment or the frame pulled. My boss used to live for the days he could find two mustangs the same year and same color. On those he would almost always just paint the rocker and put on a vinyl top. Sorry for the hijack. |
Re: Vintage salvage pool sheets. Neat info
We picked up a 68 Camaro from Texas a few years ago that had a pretty strange cut through the rear floor. Later I figured out they cut the floor through the rockers behind the front seats and at the top of the a pillars to "clip" the car.

Re: Vintage salvage pool sheets. Neat info
that was my point, SS stripes added to a Malibu, Z28 stripes added to plain jane Camaros ...
