ZL1 Assembly Line
Orley Koppes is purchasing a new ZL1 Camaro and the question came up if he was able to watch his car being built on the assembly line in Oshawa, ON.
Does anyone know if this can happen? Thanks, Kurt |
Re: ZL1 Assembly Line
Kurt, are all the new ZL1 cars built in Canada
Thanks, Mike |

Re: ZL1 Assembly Line
My uncle who used to work as head photographer for a large advertising Co. (TDF I believe it was called) that did a lot of GM ads and dealer brochures in the 60's and 70's had access to the production line and I even recall him taking my Dad on a tour with him to the Oshawa plant to watch assembly operations at one point..
He also told me that he once followed a car from beginning to end, that he was to get to use as a model for promotionary photos in early 1969 I believe, down the line as it was assembled and spoke to some of the guys who were doing it as it went along.. He always joked that it was the worse car he ever drove for rattles and squeaks and blamed it on 'too many nuts and bolts used and tightened the way they were supposed to be, because someone was watching! - Ha! So to answer your question - YES (I guess if you had some connections).. Randy |

Re: ZL1 Assembly Line
I think so Mike.
Randy, that's what Orley is hoping for....someone will contact him and take him though the plant as it's being built. Rich H. has nothing over Orley! I'll ask the question over on Camaro5. Thanks for the replies, Kurt Here's Orley sitting behind his Cuda. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...6-100_6539.jpg |
Re: ZL1 Assembly Line
Look up Mike Judge or Scott Settlemire on Camaro5.com. Scott works for GM headquarters and is in charge of the Camaro program. Mike Judge works at the production facility and has been very helpful in the past with helping people.

x2. Scott is "all things Camaro". If anybody would know or could get them in it would be Scott. K |
Re: ZL1 Assembly Line
Kurt,
I will contact Scott Settlemire and John Fitzpatrick via e-mail to ask them the question. My understanding is they had ONE guided tour of the Camaro facility and that was in 2011 (I believe) and that is the only time they have allowed the public to tour the facility. We should get an answer from them in the very near future. Thank you, Dennis |
Re: ZL1 Assembly Line
Just received from John Fitzpatrick- Marketing Mgr. for Chevrolet Performance Division:
"Dennis: You are correct. We do not offer public tours of the Oshawa Assembly Center. I think the retiree is confusing the Camaro with the Corvette. Until very recently, we did offer a Corvette customer an opportunity to visit the plant and watch their Corvette being assembled. That program has been temporarily suspended as the Bowling Green plant is undergoing renovations in preparation for the NG Corvette. Thanks, John Fitzpatrick" Marketing Manager - Chevrolet Performance Cars (Corvette and Camaro) |

Re: ZL1 Assembly Line
Dennis, thanks for looking into that for Orley. I'm thinking that now he's looking for someone who works there to possibly get him through.....Boomer said that they used to do this at the Janesville plant.
Thanks again, Kurt |

Re: ZL1 Assembly Line
According to Boomer, eventhough the factory tires are pretty soft, they are no match for ZL1/LSA motor.
