Mecum Lot S115-DY LS6 trim tag opinions

I've never seen a special paint 70 Chevelle with anything other than -- or the Dupont paint code on the TT. This trim tag has "51" stamped for the paint code which would be correct for a 70 Camaro. Has anyone seen this before on a special paint 70 Chevelle. Does the TT look to be original?

Never seen that either Howard, but haven't seen too mant "BT" built Chevelles. This car hi bid to $130K so some folks felt comfortable bidding on it (provided those are real bids, of course). That is strong money, IMO, for a coupe LS6.

Not near as crisp embossed numbers as the DY car has! Why not emboss the "51" twice, or emboss the vinyl top code if it originally had one?

There was a color photocopy of the protecto-plate inside the rear glass, but the picture didn't turnout so well.

Code 51 is also the 70 Corvette Daytona Yellow I believe. I suppose it's possible that Arlington might stamp the color code if it was still in the Chevrolet lineup (such as 51) but not having a top color like 51 51 seems odd. Have to see another Arlington tag or two with known special paint to really tell. Other than that, everything seems to be in the right place.

Did you happen to look at the Carolina Blue 70 at the auction? I think it was Arlington built. I have seen a 72 Carolina blue Arlington car and I know it had either -- or blank where the color code goes. It definitely did not have the actual code.

I saw the car but didn't take a close look.

Here is the Cowl Tag for the Carolina Blue car at the auction for comparison.

Re: Mecum Lot S115-DY LS6 trim tag opinions

The trim tag for the DY LS6 has enough anomalies that raises doubts:

1. The body # of 01671 for a 01B car is out of line when compared to other tags on chevelestuff.com
2. The font for the embossed text that is specific to each car appears crisper and deeper than other examples of Arlington built cars on the same site
3. The manner in which the paint code is embossed is unike any known samples I have seen

I believe the car was consigned by Factory Muscle/Tommy Lee Austin

Link to pertinent page of Chevelle Stuff http://www.chevellestuff.net/1970/ch...tags/70-bt.htm

Does anyone happen to have the vin# so it can be posted within the thread? I did, but can't find it now.

Other cars from Baltimore have had the paint code on the tag.

Here's a special paint Carousel Red 69 GTO convertible - and although carousel red was the standard color for Judges in 69 it was an extra cost solid special code for non Judges. Code on the tag is code 72 rather than --.

If the code was in the system, I believe it went on the tag - if it was not, it got the dashes.

Re: Mecum Lot S115-DY LS6 trim tag opinions

I've never seen a tag with only one number referring to the color (s). I have a good friend that had a '70 442 that was Sebring Yellow--also code #51 and also an extra-cost option. The weird thing about this particular car was that on all other '70 Oldsmobiles I have ever seen in that color, including the Rallye 350s, the trim tag had the dashes instead of the #51. This car was a California build and absolutely had the #51 present---the first, last, and only one I've ever seen with the tag in that manner.
I'm not saying the tag on the LS6 is good or bad or real or fake; merely adding what I know.

Actually looks real to me though I cannot explain the paint code. I often times see this mark on the face of the cowl tags and we believe it is from the masking tape on the buildsheet when it was stuck to the firewall going down the line. Many times the paint was not totally set up and it left a mark when the sheet was removed.
