488 mile COPO Camaro

Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
VIN 124379N623763
Besides the Copo 9561, w/ factory 4:56 it's also a Copo 9511 car! Great history, is all good otherwise? Noted mileage is post resto. Old thread here... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbt...topics/23735/1 ~ Pete |
Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
Is it just me, or does that car not sit AWESOME !
The "MOF" |
Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
I can only wish she was sitting in my garage!!!

Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
Are the 14 inch rally wheels correct for that car? Was that an option instead of the coop wheels?
Nice and yes it has a mean stance |
Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
A COPO ordered with ZJ7 would have received 14 x 7 Rally Wheels same as a Camaro SS. However the reproduction window sticker doesn't list the option [or the rear bumper guards]. Since it is a reproduction there is also no guarantee the car was built with 9511.
Walden's ZL1 [N620923] was virtually identical to this car. I have a copy of the invoice from Brooks Chevrolet Co. Across the bottom is written "R.L. Automotive Marietta GA paid 4/10/69." That puts into question the very dubious claim that Chevrolet gave him the cars. I have seen the paperwork for Bill Jenkins '69 Camaro PRO car; bought and paid for just like anyone else. Nobody, not even Don Yenko and Fred Gibb, received free race cars from Chevrolet. The Mecum ad states that it is "One of only two produced in Dover White with a blue interior..." I have a window sticker copy for COPO N668741 which was Dover White with a blue interior. So that's three. No one knows how many COPOs were built in those colors. The restoration seems to have overlooked the D96 fender striping, included with Z21. |
Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
480 miles since resto in the 1980s...

Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
I was at Lamar's shop buying a couple ZL-1 block's when a FL dealer called him after buying the car & finding some doc's in the glove box with his name on them. Think the asking price was around $38K & I didn't have that kind of money. Think it was restored after the FL dealer sold it
As a reference, Deuces & Gibb Nova's were selling around $12-18K at the time |
Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
I have old pictures of a white-blue int. COPO car at a U.S. Camaro Club show in Columbus, OH. in the late 90's. It was owned by a guy in Columbus. Is that car one of the three?
|
Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
Could be.
N668741 was sold new at Hairston Chevrolet Chesapeake OH. |
Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
interesting.......

Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
Nice looking car but one thing I can never understand about some of the low mileage cars. If the can has had a full frameoff restoration why does it matter how many miles the car had before the restoration?

Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
"specifically for the 1969 NHRA drag racing program. At the end of the season the consistent 10-second performer was retired to the back of the shop where it sat until the late 1980s, when it was resurrected with a complete frame-off restoration that included the original engine, a rarity among COPO cars, and many original parts that were removed prior to racing the car in 1969."
If the car was retired after one race season to the back of the shop, why would it need any restoration? It would be worth way more as the ultimate survivor COPO. Sounds a little fishy to me. |
Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
James and Mike I agree with you guys. Don't care if it had 1 mile or 100,000 miles. After a frame off why would that even matter. One year of drag racing and it needed a frame off. Wish it was left alone. All history lost IMO. The whole world wants to restore everything it seems.

Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
N668741 was an original owner low mile car until it ended up in Columbus Ohio with the current second owner.

Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
Although my Chevelle doesn't have the original paint, we know it was repainted sometime before 1977. Every so often I have someone say that I should have it painted but mostly everyone wants it left just the way it is!
Plus, I told Dan, who's quite a bit bigger than me, that I wouldn't paint it.....that was part of the agreement. In other words......leave them alone if at all possible. IMO Kurt |
Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
Big Dan is quite a bit bigger than most! Do what he tells ya Mr. 4 Speed!

Less than 10k on the clock, all original and not-restored 2nd owner car. The story that the original owner told was that the car wasn't ordered with the blue interior, and the guy that ordered it refused delivery, so he saw it and bought it off the lot. It also has a rear speaker, which I have never seen on any other COPO. |

Re: 488 mile COPO Camaro
My burnished brown RS COPO is documented to have a factory rear speaker.

Yeah, and liquid tire chain cans in the back. Your car wins the one-of one prize. |
