Wow.... Sleezbay sale on a 69 TA, or is it?

This is a trainwreck waiting to happen.....

Ebay Link

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> LISTED AT NO RESERVE. A 1969 trans am automatic, one of 114 made, very rare parts car. For parts only, no title, vin #, or drive train. Many good parts. Please look at pictures , they pretty much tell the story. Has rear spoiler, back glass, 4 correct rallies, original T headlights, valance, fender wells, and many more good one year only parts. Was told this is a ram air iv car but with out a vin there is no way to prove it. The Vin on door has the last 2 digits scratched off. The Vin tag is missing. The hidden vin under heater is cut out. </div></div>

Looks like someone rebodied a TA and now this person has the original shell for sale......

If the VIN can be figued out, there could be TWO TA's out there with the same VIN....

I agree with you. I wonder what 69 Firebird has the VINS on it?

Most likely one of the big dollar numbers matching cars from BJ or Mecum

I think I saw a discussion on this car a while back on some forum or another. Performance years, maybe.

Could also be car that goes to shows or collection, maybe even a member. Can't always blame the auction house.

Wow. Car doesn't even look that bad at all. Very savable. Whoever rebodied that isn't very smart.

Tag on the door has all but the last two digits? Should be awful easy to find what the complete # is... Jim Mattison could figure it out in about half an hour...and then, the poor sucker with the clone...that poor SOB...

Do '69 firebirds have the partial VIN stamped in the cowl area similar to '69 Camaros?

It looks like someone ground down the convin on the cowl, notice the rusty area? I am assuming that's what he meant by &quot;removed&quot; vins.

Looks like the same tagless car we looked at here last year?
If so it was advertised as up here in Canada, somewhere near Montreal I think?
Ground down hiddens may still show from the backside.
Fourty lashes to whoever the fool that killed it and stole its identity for a rebody!

I had asked the seller if he could send what he could make out of the vin....

Here is his reply.... ( maybe you guys can figure out which one it was )

<span style="color: #FF0000">&quot;Here is what I have: the last 2 digits are completely gone and the 2 digits before that are hard to read but I believe it is 22337N1179--
the 7 may be a 9 and the 9 may be a 7 (very faded)&quot;

Re: Wow.... Sleezbay sale on a 69 TA, or is it?

Soooo - There's likely a &quot;Continuous History Car&quot; (CHC) out there somewhere. CHC is the car that continued on after the restoration and retains the continuous title history. Then there is this car, the &quot;Original Component Car&quot; (OCC). OCC is the car that is left after the restoration with its' title sequence inturrupted. The OCC may or may not retain the original factory frame or body stamps (depending on the location of the manufacturers factory stamping). This is an age old argument in the Cobra community (SAAC)because so many Cobras were wrecked and resurrected (either to continue their racing careers or by collectors when the values skyrocketed). Brian Anglis (AC) continued to make replacement Cobra frames and body panels (and full bodies) through the 1980s. The SAAC says that only one car (CHC or OCC) is eligible to be placed in the registry. Many legal cases have been decided with the same logic that SAAC uses. Which car do you think deserves a place in the registry?
There may be a lot of strong opinions (there were at SAAC) - which side would you come down on? There are all kinds of nuances and &quot;what ifs&quot;, but maybe for this discussion we could just stick with this specific example of this particular Trans Am. Whaddya think?

The &quot;vehicle&quot; currently for sale on Peebait is scrap, good for parts only and should be cut up. The other car, (if one exists with the tags and numbers of the aforementioned scrap) is evidence of a felony and I hope the perps are caught.

Dead cars are DEAD.

Moving VIN tags is a crime. I don't see the gray area.

Re: Wow.... Sleezbay sale on a 69 TA, or is it?

XBM I agreed with you totally when I first read your response, but when I thought about it a little more what if someone purchased the the original ebay car and found the clone, took the vin's and parts off to restore the original car. Then scraped the clone shell. I would feel comfortable, legally and ethically, owning the restored original car with the vins in place as long as the process could be documented. I also feel (maybe rightly or wrongly) a court would find the finished original car and the restorer's actions legitimate I know a crime had been committed by the earlier actions but what if someone made a drag car out of the original car and in the process removed the vin's then decided to put the car back on the street. Ah the age old question continues......

Re: Wow.... Sleezbay sale on a 69 TA, or is it?

I would not want to own any car which has had several VIN tags &quot;tampered&quot; with- even if the effort was to return them to the original body.

I didn't even notice that the first time around. Makes you wonder what the subframe is from.

All 1969 Trans Am's had mandatory power disc brakes and power steering. You could not delete those items.

Probably from the car that now is the TA.

looks like someone made a deal. He added a BIN and someone bought it for
$2,224.00.

Pretty sure we will be hearing about this one again......
