'69 'velle frame: part no./partial VIN location
I can't remember if 69s had vins stamped on the frame. Where are the part nos. stamped? Same as 70s?
Thanks! |

So that is a part no. and month/day? Looks like it is on the side of the frame (behind driver's side rear wheel)? VIN?
Thanks Dan! |
Re: '69 'velle frame: part no./partial VIN location
Sam, contrary to popular belief not all plants stamped the VINs on the frame, some were hit and miss and some struck multiple times. If there is a VIN the most common place I see is almost directly above the part number area on the top part of the frame. I would check everywhere along the drivers side rail and even the rear crossmember just in front of the bumper on the rear side as a few have been found there.

My 70 has it stamped without a VIN and it is an Atlanta built Chevelle.

my Atlanta 70 has the vin stamped on top of the frame pass. side all the way at the back.
my Atlanta 69 has no vin stamped on the frame. |

Interesting Donnie. I have been unable to feel or see with a mirror the VIN on my Atlanta 69. Frame #, date, code and manufacturer are there though. |
Re: '69 'velle frame: part no./partial VIN location
It was a federal mandate to stamp the frames and bodies with VIN's yet I have to say the vast majority of Chevrolets I have had apart over the years (into the 100's) did not have VIN's stampted on the frame and as I said earlier, some had multiple stamps. We also know many Atlanta cars did get CON VINs stamped anywhere on the firewall.

What is your trim tag build date Donnie?

Re: '69 'velle frame: part no./partial VIN location
Sam, do you have a shot of the trim tag by any chance for that car?

Re: '69 'velle frame: part no./partial VIN location
I do Rob. Will get at it tonite and post it. It is an 02C Kansas car, 396/325 with the "L" on the tt. 1 Mar '69 starts on a Saturday, so I am guessing "A" week (1st week)of Feb starts on the 2nd of Feb according to GM? Therefore the "C" or 3rd week starts on the 16th of Feb. Of course the "build date" on a TT does not indicate when the car was finished.
