Re: 1967 Chevelle SS 396 L78 375 hp
I have had the pleasure of traveling to several National shows with this car. The owner did a fantastic job on the restoration. The attention to detail is 1st class to say the least and the overall car itself is outstanding.

Re: 1967 Chevelle SS 396 L78 375 hp
AACA Grand National Award. Maybe not as technical as a GM certification, but craftsmanship is top shelf! I love this car!!!

Re: 1967 Chevelle SS 396 L78 375 hp
This car also did very well at the MC&CN show last year. Beyond the Grand National Award, it also was nominated for and won "Best Factory High-Performance" award at the AACA National Banquet in Philly this winter. It is a shame that serious medical concerns are the reason this car is up for sale but I wish Kurt and Leslie nothing but the best in their uphill battle.

Re: 1967 Chevelle SS 396 L78 375 hp
I've also had the pleasure of seeing this car in person numerous times. The quality of restoration is second to none. Attention to detail is superb, fit and finish excellent. It's the nicest stock '67 I've personally seen.

Yes it is! http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a79...lleBiro163.jpg Fist year for disc brakes on a Chevelle and it had to be a Super Sport to get them. I am surprised this car has not sold yet. It is an absolutely spectacular car with a lot of past owner history.

Re: 1967 Chevelle SS 396 L78 375 hp
We knew it was out there and it took following up a bunch of leads, then trying to pry it loose, but what is believed to be the original engine has been found, not far from the original home of this L78 Chevelle.
The engine made a stop at Chris White's and is now on the way to Nickey in order to be reunited with the Chevelle. New Price Adjustment;$95.000.00 |

Good news Stefano! Congrats and nice detective work!

Re: 1967 Chevelle SS 396 L78 375 hp
I can't take any of the credit for tracking it down and getting it, but I'm happy to see that it finally got done.

Re: 1967 Chevelle SS 396 L78 375 hp
Pardon my ignorance on '67 Chevelles but if the block does not have the VIN on it, how do you know its the born with original motor and not a correctly dated block?
Was this car at MCACN 2011? If so, I remember it being fantastic! |
Re: 1967 Chevelle SS 396 L78 375 hp
How do you know that any block, even it it does have a VIN is the original engine to a particular car?
Many times you can never know 100%. Approx 612 L78 cars were produced so there were at least that many engines as well as some warranty replacement blocks produced. Not a very large number. This particular engine has a chain of history as being in the general vicinity where this L78 Chevelle was sold new. I'm confident that it was not the only one built on that day, but it does match the POP. What are the odds that an L78 engine built on the same day would be found in the same area? I stated that this is "believed" to be the original engine to this car, but can't say 100% for certain. Anyone interested would have to check out the story and make a determination for themselves. Quite a bit of time and work (as well as capital) was invested to track the engine down and while it does not have a VIN, the pad date and suffix did turn out to match the car and POP. It was at MCACN II and III. |
Re: 1967 Chevelle SS 396 L78 375 hp
...Great explanation ..... You always tell it like it is. This would be a car that any collector would love to have in his stable. |
Re: 1967 Chevelle SS 396 L78 375 hp
John thanks for the positive comments.
There were several plants which built Chevelles in the USA. I believe all below built '67's. A Atlanta, Georgia B Baltimore, Maryland G Framingham, Massachusetts K Kansas City, Missouri Z Fremont, California This particular L78 was built at the Framingham, Massachusetts plant. While it would be customary to expect the engine to have a VIN. I am not familiar enough with the time line and VIN stamping of each plant. I have seen other 1967 Chevrolets (non Corvette) with original engines and no VIN. There is such a small data base for '67 L78s, not many real, no questions cars to be had. |
Re: 1967 Chevelle SS 396 L78 375 hp
Exclude Flint Michigan,Los Angeles California & Arlington Texas from your 1967 Chevelle list.

Might have been hard to tell without hearing my tone or seeing my body language but I was genuinely curious and did not intent to sound facetious.
It's a beautiful car |
Re: 1967 Chevelle SS 396 L78 375 hp
No problem Dan. I was trying to give you the best answer I could. It is a very valid question.
This car has been invited and will be featured at the AACA Grand National event in Shelbyville Tennessee, this weekend. It will be competing for a Senior Grand National award. Stop by and check out the car if you are in the area. NOTE: Just a reminder that this car is being sold for medical reasons. |
Re: 1967 Chevelle SS 396 L78 375 hp
I can't wait to see the Chevelle! I'll be there with my '70 Hemi Challenger for Grand National judging.

That Chevelle was breath taking! It won first place in a very crowded class against a bunch of great cars. Congrats.
