NOS LS-7 Crate Engine 454/465HP Never Used
I just picked up this LS7 crate engine from the original owner. It came in a package deal along with some parts I wanted for myself. It was bought at the dealership, brought home, put on a stand and covered. The owner planned to build a 67-69 Camaro and gathered many parts to do so. He never found a body and the engine stayed on the stand for decades. He periodically oiled the cylinders and turned it over. This engine is absolutely as new. It still has the original valley cover and tape over the exhaust ports. I pulled the pan to inspect for corrosion/contamination. The engine is as clean as the day it was built.

Those 990 heads breathe very well. I have them on a 427 with a zl1 cam and it sounds great! Good luck.

This engine would be similar to your 427 in that it has the 990 heads and the ZL-1 cam. The LS-7 engines are quite a handful.

jason, is that 12.5 to 1 or 11 to 1?

Re: NOS LS-7 Crate Engine 454/465HP Never Used
I believe all LS-7s were 12.5:1. I have been planning to buy a bore-o-scope with camera to take pictures of the cylinders in assembled engines. Maybe this is a good excuse to buy one. If GM lowered the compression of the LS7, I imagine they would have changed the suffix code from XCH to something else. This is a true XCH LS-7.

OK, I went and bought and inspection camera/borescope at Costco. Quite a deal I think at $150. It takes video and pictures and came with everything to operate. Fun toy!
Anyway, the piston number is 3963551 which comes up as 12.25:1, first used in the 1970 LS-7 engine. http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w.../LS7Piston.jpg From GM Parts Direct Website: 3976014 High Performance Piston This 454 standard, pressed pin, high performance piston has a 12.25:1 compression ratio and an open dome. (ID#3963551 or 3976032). Used in engine assemply P/N 3965774. Thanks, Jason |

Re: NOS LS-7 Crate Engine 454/465HP Never Used
Thanks Bruce. I definitely have not had all the cool stuff. Once that happens I don't know what I will do. The good news is there is always more cool stuff out there. Once I think I have seen it all, something else even better pops up!
