Re: 1968 Nova SS 396

Dan actually has 2 1968 L-78 Nova's for sale. 1 is White & sold at Reedman Chev and I think it has the orig drivtrain. The 2nd is Teal Blue, sold at Stockton Chev, has original Calif black plate and has an alum headed L88. Both are 4 speeds

No idea what the price range is or what level of resto is needed

I think only 617 L78 Nova's were produced in 1968, far less than 69-70

Re: 1968 Nova SS 396

I have talked with Dan multiple times about these rare 1 year only 1968 BB novas. He is very knowledgeable about 68 novas. I have never seen the 2 cars he has listed but from what I am told by Dan they are the real deal, no question about it. He has a lot of history on his cars and he was the third and now the seventh owner of his white one. How cool is that! If you are looking for a 1968 BB nova either one of his cars should be considered. For the record 667 375 hp cars where built 50 where copo cars. So Dan actually has 2 of 617 cars built. Enough said.

Jasons is a rare 3speed l79

Re: 1968 Nova SS 396

I sure do! The 3 speed was factory default, you had to up grade to a 4 speed. It was an option. Actually my 3 speed is a borg warner heavy duty 3 speed M13. Only 317 Novas got this transmission in 1968. It is actually dated April of 1967. It had to of been a left over from the 67 model year since my 68 L79 is a June built car. Very cool and rare cars! I think only 16 or so are acounted for.

Jason </div></div>Buick Daily car reports say that 1 1970 stage 1 convertible was a 3 speed. Although, a second one has now been documented. The original owner probabaly wanted to tow his/her boat Or save the $58 bucks !

looks like a real decent car for that money. I bet that is Brooklyn Heavy's car carrier in the background.

Many of us are convinced that Dan has the first L-88 Motion Nova that Joel built. Orig Sequoia Green and repainted Black by Batt Auto Body and still shows evidence of Phase III stripes &amp; Motion tow tabs.

Has that been verified by Joel?

NovaMob03 03-02-2012 06:23 PM

Re: 1968 Nova SS 396

He has a letter from Joel stating that it could be one of his Nova's, but since Joel lacks actual invoice documentation Dan has tracked down past owners and co workers at Motion who have verbally confirmed the performance &amp; body work done to the car.

I also think it had sidepipes &amp; a shifter that was made especially for this car.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but like I mentioned, there are many of us that believe that it's Fredy Calas's old street racer.

Re: 1968 Nova SS 396

So, not a yes by Joel then?

BTW, As you say, each to their own opinion, and some of us do not put much credence in what Dan says.

Re: 1968 Nova SS 396

Thru the yrs we have seen cars verified without actual work invoices or a personal inspection to back them up. A certification letter from Joel based on his memory might mean little to me but more to others. Regarding this particular car I have suggested that Dan compile notarized affidavits from those that claim to have done the work. These, with the 'maybe' letter from Joel, should do the trick because the car mods show evidence of it's provenance.

Dan may not be the easiest to get along with, but he has located many significant Supercars and spends a lot of time performing due diligence. The car needs to be personally inspected....something Joel could not perform (because of distance) otherwise, how could he have confirmed it with a 'yes letter'?

Re: 1968 Nova SS 396

If I had any hint of being even Motion tuned, I would get it to see Joel. Even if he doesn't remember it still would be seen by Joel. An L-88 Motion??? nova, street raced in NY, in that time frame.......priceless!

Here are some photos of the truck you see.

I forget the story on the truck, but it would be a great piece restored. Dan claimed it to be Brooklyn Heavy's truck or someone elses or possibly someone else's or someone else'e. I don't remember exactly. The story was long, but an interesting one. Either way, the truck is cool.

That Joe Saltamachia was the owner of that awesome 57 T-Bird race car, Salty's Shaker, who has since passed away.

Remember the Dick Harrell Chevelle story?

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbt...481#Post385481

Roger was given the lead to find his car by Dan. Without Dan's lead, Roger may never have found this car, and proven that COPO chevelles were in fact made in the Kansas plant.

Say what you want, but Dan has had a positive impact on the community.

Yes he has Rich. Many times I saw that orange truck pulling into Cecil County in the middle of the winter to run the Snow Bird races that Cecil had back in the day. I loved watching Heavy's 66-67 chevelle compete in B/MP in those days.

Well said Rich. He not only helped me identify the black '68 L78 Nova, but he also helped me track and locate EVERY owner back to the original purchaser. And, gave his time and assistance free of charge!

Re: 1968 Nova SS 396

I am not sure why someone hasn't bought these novas yet. They are both real L78 4 speed 4:10 68 novas! The price seems fair. Novas seem to have taken the biggest hit from the muscle car crash we had a couple of years ago. Dan is outspoken and some people have a problem with that. He is a little crazy but so are most of the people on this site. Like what has already been said he has helped a lot of people find cars and is very knowledgable about these 68 novas. He helped start the 68 L-79 nova get going that I took over, a lot of people didn't even know they existed. I think it's a pretty good deal for such a rare car.

Re: 1968 Nova SS 396

It's a great deal, but prices are still low. I have a 70 L78 camaro that is the lowest mile, most original one known as of now. I can't get 15k under that MacNeish valued it at.

Charley can't get 19k for a L78 Nova with a numbers matching driveline.

There's a 69 COPO camaro project with a #'s motor that (if I remember correctly) has not sold in the 60's.

And Dan can't seem to find a buyer for one or more of these awesome 68's.

Tough market. Hopefully it picks up. I'd like to buy Jude's COPO!
