Awesome! Back in the early 1970`s in Logan Square (Chicago neighborhood) my buddies and I were imitating Evil Knievel. We would build the largest ramps out of a large doors and jump over 55 gallon drums.

One day my friends little brother decided to try jumping over 5 - 55 gallon drums. He did it and was a terrible mess. Luckily he survived but it was so similar to Evil`s crash over Caesars Palace. It`s amazing we survived those day.

The original Big Wheel. Yeah I rocked one of those till it got stolen! The box still holds Christmas ornimants in my parents house.

we did the same thing, If I remember correctly, we measured a 16' jump (far not height)on a single speed 24" bike I did it on as I bent the front forks on the landing:)Those were the days

I had a few big wheels in the late 70's early 80's. I kept braking them riding/peddling all over with them. Even had one with a &quot;horn&quot;! ha

I had a Chopperoo (found a picture on the web) by Marx. This thing had a chain drive from the peddles to the rear wheels. All the other kids I knew had Big Wheels. This Chopperoo was the talk of the neighborhood, because not only was it REALLY fast (I never had any trouble beating other kids with their Big Wheels, the peddle-to-spocket ratio made this VERY fast), but because it was RWD, I could do a wheelie. And with practice, I could ride the wheelie for 10 or more feet. Cool stuff. All the other kids were in awe. And from a high speed, you could stop peddling, and then throw it sideways, something you couldn't do with a Big Wheel, until years later, when I think they came out with a rear brake lever on the Big Wheel.

The only down side of the Chopperoo was sometimes when I really went really fast, it would throw the chain off the sprocket. I would pull over, flip the Chopperoo over, re-attach the chain, and be on my way.

Hee Hee great stuff! we used to cut off forks from junkers with a band saw and hammer them over our own forks for the extension. Every now and then you would get some &quot;sag&quot; and have to remove the front wheel and hammer them up again...10 yr olds.

I remember shedding the banana seat placing the 10 speed seat and throwing the bars forward way before the first mx bikes came along...uh the days

My brother and I did the same thing with our Stingrays - think Day 2 for bicycles. Fast forward +/- 30 years, got the bike back for my son after being passed down to different families kids over the years. Lucky for me most of the original parts stayed with the bike, but had to track down some nice original pieces to replace the lost/worn out stuff - no different than the cars of the day being Day 2'd.

My twins are riding Old School. I bought these a few years back and I also have the larger size for them later.

parents bought me that exact Big Wheel for Xmas back in the day. Wore a hole in the front wheel the first week I had it from skidding all over the neighborhood, remember Mom was very PO'd and called Marx direct. They mailed me a new wheel right away free of charge, put a million neighborhood miles on that rig, good times

I have a Big Wheel story.

When I was an Atlanta Firefighter we went on a &quot;person injured&quot; call.

We get to the call and there is this little boy named Curtis(forever know in Firehouse lore as &quot;Tough A$$ Little Curtis) who is about 8 years old.
Both of his feet have had the tops wore off and he was not even crying.
He was riding his Big Wheel down a big hill in his apartment complex parking lot and he put his bare feet down on the ground to stop. His feet were flipped upside down and the rear wheels rode up and basically used his feet as wheel chocks and slide for a pretty good distance.
It basically abraided the tops of his feet off.
We wrapped his feet and sent him to Grady in an ambulance.

Tough A$$ little Curtis.

Hmmmm...someone that I know..at age 14, borrowed a neighbors big wheel and went flying down a hill on a sidewalk and spun it out of control and hit a fire hydrant...HARD!
