info on a 69 Yenko Camaro
i was wondering if anyone has info on a 69 Yenko Camaro that my brother's brother in-law used to own. his name is denny reed and he bought the car new from v.v. cooke chevolet in louisville,ky back in 1969. it was lemans blue with a black vinyl top. had the 4 wheel disc brake option and a 4 speed. i think it also had aluminum heads. he traded it in back around 73 or 74 on a vega station wagon (of all things!). i love to know if this car is still alive and well. thanks

Welcome to the site
..... Do you have a vin number from the car? ( maybe from old license registration or insurance company records? Do you recall all the options it had? .... Are you sure about the 4 wheel disc brakes? Those were ususally on the trans am 302 Z/28 cars... .... maybe someone here knew about the car ...Good luck |
Re: info on a 69 Yenko Camaro
The only LB 4 spd from V V Cooke on the VIN list is 614804

Re: info on a 69 Yenko Camaro
Only one car that it could be.

Re: info on a 69 Yenko Camaro
Wow, that would be cool if it was a Yenko with the JL8 4 wheel disc brakes. But it almost sounds like it might have been one of the ZL1 experimental cars that supposedly had the 4 wheel disc brakes. See what other information you can get, this could get interesting!

There are infact a few documented 6-cylinder cars with JL-8, mostly sold in the north west. Those cars were towing heavy caravans and the discbrakes added some safety going downhill. We have one documented SS350 with JL-8 here in Sweden. Jan |

If the car is indeed vin # 614804, then that car is found. It was in IL last I knew. It is possible that the car is another vin, since we don't have all of the numbers. |
Re: info on a 69 Yenko Camaro
i know that it had 4 wheel disc brakes. it had the 427 and possible aluminum heads, but the engine was out of it as it spun a bearing and he traded it off before i got to see the engine back in the car. i remember the YSC on the headrests like it was yesterday. i sure would have loved to have bought it from him but,i had just started driveing then and it was gone before i had a chance to ask about it.

Re: info on a 69 Yenko Camaro
it would be greaat if that is his car and someone is taking care of it. i'll never forget those YSC emblems on the headrests as long as i live. sure wish i could have got it from him,but it was got before i had the chance. thanks for the info.

Re: info on a 69 Yenko Camaro
Pete,
661343 Hugger Orange Black Vinyl 4-Speed was sold out of VV Cooke. It is a low mile original survivor. Original drivetrain still with the original owner. Great documentation. Very cool piece! Ed |

Re: info on a 69 Yenko Camaro
In regards to SS cars with the JL-8 pkg, when I got out of the service in 1972, my sister's boyfriend had a friend with a 69 SS 396/375, M-21, burgandy with the red SS fender stripes, X66, black vinyl top, spoilers, std black interior w/o console and the 15" rally wheels. The car came out of Chicago and was totaled out that summer when he rolled it over after missing a curve. He tore the M-21 out and had his father in Chicago ship up another muncie and it turned out to be a M-20. Rare car.

Re: info on a 69 Yenko Camaro
V V Cooke's personal demonstrator cars were always blue with white interior (according to his shop supervisor). Did this copo have white interior? My marina blue/white '67 Corvette was one of his.

Re: info on a 69 Yenko Camaro
Pete,
I screwed up the VIN on my post above. It is VIN 681343. I believe that this is the last known Yenko Camaro built. Ed |
