71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
These cars were just stolen at BJ.
|
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
How do you know that? Where did you see the info?
|
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
It was a tongue in cheek response to how low they went for. ;-)

Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
Oops...LOL
I'm a bit tired from being at the auctions today |
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
That selling price was nuts!!! $110,000 for the pair?
They were both preproduction assembly line pilot cars. I remember both of those cars from the 1980s. I still have photos of both of them somewhere. One was in CT and the other was in MA. It was like the auctioneers purposely snuck them through between the million dollar cars and couldnt get them off the block soon enough for the next million dollar car. Never sell a pair of cars at auction. Never ever. |
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
Steve, somebody got some amazing mopars for a heck of a price.
|
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
Darn right. That Coronet RT 440-6 was one of 7 produced. (7 four speeds and 9 autos.)
Absolutely insane. http://www.barrett-jackson.com/applicati...d=443&pop=0 http://www.barrett-jackson.com/applicati...d=443&pop=0 |
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
Why didn't the seller have a reserve on these cars?
|
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
Supposedly one of them has already been resold by the auction buyer for more than the two-for-one auction price.
That was the ultimate "Buy One, Get One Free" sale of the century. |
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
I don't know the conditions of the cars so perhaps it was a good buy but not as astounding as the numbers may indicate.
|
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
I am wondering how Mr. Torino is feeling today. All his cars were absolutely stolen out from under him. 72k for an FC7 71 6bbl 'Cuda - wow. My wife and I were watching it as it was slow to even get there and I said..."Ummm,...." She simply said "No way." she knew what i was thinking, had the phone in my hand

Ya, they couldve been a re-body.... Mustve been a GM crowd, nice job on the carpark deal though! cheers Dave |

Like I said, I remember both of them from at least 25-30 years ago. They were both in really nice shape back then. I'll dig through the photo album and try to post some of the old photos form the archive. |
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
Uh, it's kind of hard to rebody a mopar. It would be a whole mew car!

Here's that same 1970 Coronet R/T 6-pack four speed ragtop back in 1984 at the Northeast Hemi Owners' Association meet in Chicopee, Mass.

dont be fooled. theres a lot of road runners out there with satellite bodies on them. and a few of the supposedly original hemi A-bodies arent so original as they would have you think. |

My 'rebody' comments were more a slant on the #9 ZL1 chit-chat going on... I wonder which car the guy decided to sell? Surely you'd keep the 71 Hemi? maybe?? cheers Dave |
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
I would have kept the ragtop. Nothing runs like a 440 sixpack with a stick. That love it or hate it bodystyle grows on you.

Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
Yikes!
(I removed the photo-due to me being an idiot) |
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
Nope. The pilot car didnt have a vinyl top and was Bright Red, (same color as my Charger), not Hemi Orange.
|
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
Sorry!
|
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
No problemo.
Did anyone there get any close up photos of the two cars? I'd love to see some? |
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ

Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
I bought them. Both had horrible descriptions never said anything about owner history, being documented by galen, owner history, magazine features from 80s and 90s etc.. both are good cars! I've had a lot of offers but haven't sold either one of them as of yet. Didn't plan on buying anything but could pass the deal up best buy of the sale IMO.

Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
Good for you! I love that R/T. That is one of the rarest B-body ragtops ever built, next to the 2 hemi Coronet R/T ragtops (1 US and 1 Canadian). Enjoy them.

Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
Nicely done and congrats!

Congrats! I about fell out of my chair when the hammer came down on them. Easily the best buy of the whole show. |
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
congrats! 2 for the price of 1!

Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
Funny thing was I was way way in back jumping up and down trying to get noticed, and after winning the bid they came up to the guy 3 rows in front of me and he freaked out saying he never bid.. scared the heck out of him and I'm yelling saying it was me who had the bid. Funny to read all the conspiracy theorys about the sale on other websites...
|
Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
and not to get sidetracked...how about the Black HEMI 70 Roadrunner...looked like a gem to me...color change and a warranty motor...I think it sold for 75K...Geez Mopars are like ...free.

Congrats on nicely done. *Paul

Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
I think the 70 RR was all the money for a color change non numbers car. My Blue 68 Numbers RR brought 155+ the juice which I thought was super good money.. a guy from Minneapolis bought he could have come over a month ago and bought it for less and saved the commission and shipping. Auctions are crazy its hit and miss

Re: 71 Hemi GTX & 70 440/6 Coronet vert at BJ
I would like to hear more about the R/T when you get it. For example, which color is on the data plate? White?
