Day 2 cruising songs
I thought this might be a fun thread to do. Post what you think is a good cruising song, but try to keep them in the 1970's or earlier.
I'll start with what I think is the all time best: Stranglehold https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0c3d7QgZr7g |
Re: Day 2 cruising songs
Just heard that one on 93.3 WMMR today around 11:30.
Seems like the movie Dased and Confused would be a good reference here. I think that was set about 1973. |
Re: Day 2 cruising songs
Yeah. I'm laid up in bed right now with a pulled back muscle, watching Dazed and Confused.
It pee's me off everytime I hear Matthew Mcconaughey say "watch the leather" as the guy gets in the Chevelle. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: pxtx</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Just heard that one on 93.3 WMMR today around 11:30. "...that's what I like about high school girls: I get older and they stay the same...." [not sure if that exact, but close enough]. Hilarious.

Re: Day 2 cruising songs
This was a good song to listen to while driving to the next town looking for the race scene...smoked up of course.

I was in the 4th grade when My Sharona came out. Loved it then and now.
The driving fast song for me was Detroit Rock City, the Destroyer version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R5J6dvpujs |

Re: Day 2 cruising songs
You are right Mike, it took too long for them to be mentioned. I loved the Beach Boys before I realized I loved cars. It was cool to start learning about them asking my Mom and Dad what different parts of thier lyrics meant.
Probably the only thing that ever made me want a Corvette was "Shut Down" <object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/nxXWjR6q5u4"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/nxXWjR6q5u4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object> Because I'm a Punk Rocker at heart, I always loved when guys would cover the Beach Boys. <object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/SmzqTzEduAk"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/SmzqTzEduAk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object> If I was a Hipster in 1970's I'm sure I would be crusing to the Velvet Underground. <object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/2duFNff_ArY"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/2duFNff_ArY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object> The one song I feel is timeless is Sultans of Swing and it fits the original criteria so it get's the nod by me. <object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/zDyAnW5T-64"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/zDyAnW5T-64" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object> |

Re: Day 2 cruising songs
----Had a job in the early 80s that involved delivering front-end loader buckets among many other duties for an old, old friend. I would probably pay money to be able to erase those memories, but I used to listen, almost exclusively to "The Cars" at almost ear-searing volumes during those deliveries. Thats what kept me going back then, sad as it sounds. Still like "The Cars" though,,,,,,,in limited volumes anymore.....Bill S

Re: Day 2 cruising songs
Now that is some good music.
I would like to also thank everyone for NOT mentioning Freebird or any of the other songs that so called classic rock stations play 100 times a day..lol Speaking of Sabbath, you can't leave this one out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZCyOWLrRTE <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: black69</div><div class="ubbcode-body"><div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: whitetop</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Jailbreak...Thin Lizzy </div></div> nice! here the ones I play still today (robin trower, deep purple, sabbath): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D175...eature=related https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHOrp...feature=fvwrel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLq8K...eature=related and for the ride home... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06lWm...eature=related </div></div> |

Just since The Knack was mentioned, "Good Girls Don't" was just great, lol. It tied into the curiousity of youth, crusing for chicks, and trying to satisfy those teenage urges, lol.

Re: Day 2 cruising songs
If you want to do like the cool kids and actualy show the video in your post follow me:
type the [ bracket next to your letter P key, then type "video:youtube" without the quotes and then end it with the closed bracket ] [video:youtube] next paste your youtube link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKxZY0DIxIk and then end it with the bracket[ with /video and end bracket It will look like this: [video:youtube] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKxZY0DIxIk Now if I take the spaces out between the ] http...k[ it then looks like this: <object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/DKxZY0DIxIk"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/DKxZY0DIxIk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object> |

Can't do it.
After going through 2 tubes of glue and 5 laptops, I finally figured out what copy and paste means. |

Re: Day 2 cruising songs
I remember listening to this one quite a bit on the 8 track while cruising in '67
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FOUqQt3Kg0 .....and then the music scene began to take some new twists shortly thereafter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cP6Xa...eature=related ^ pretty funny when the camera scans the audience in the early Hendrix clip and most are in shock as to what the heck is this? A historic moment in music history. |
Re: Day 2 cruising songs
Check out the look on the face of the guy wearing the uniform @ 2:13 into the Hendrix video...lmao

My sister workes for 102.9 WMGK in Philadelphia and just had this guy in the studio this morning. Turns out Queen was looking for a fellow to do some vocals and this guy got the job. Did he get it because he sounds kinda like Freddy or because he looks like him?

Re: Day 2 cruising songs
Was not a big music person growing up, thus have no real 'roots' in a particular genre - but my current best driving tunes would have to be Kansas! Their greatest hits CD is very good.
One of my favorite movies is indeed D&C! Can't beat Wooderson, Ali, Pink, O'Banyon, Simone, - and the music! |
Re: Day 2 cruising songs
Hey Mrs Billy, Thanks for agreeing with me but that Radar Love video is a dub. I know that song VERY well. 1st, it was cut to leave out the organ part (only about 4 bars) and there's only one singer in the clip. The real song had female back-ups, a trombone, 2 trumpets, and maybe another horn. You can hear all that in the video (from the original recording), but they sure ain't there!
It's still my favorite song of all time (other than Car Crazy Cutie by the Beach Boys. No one EVER plays that song. It's done without instrumental in a raw garage band style. It's the Boys at their basic best. "she's hip to everything man from customs to rails, she's got axle grease embedded 'neath her finger nails".....oohhh oh yeah! Verne |
Re: Day 2 cruising songs
Day 2 is Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams, but the "hopped up" version by MXPX shouldn't be missed! You could crash some gears with that version. *Paul * Take it Easy by the Eagles is a great song to listen to, but compared to some of the other selections it sounds like easy listening.
