Would that be a 1970 or a 1970 1/2 Camaro Race Car? Has it ever had an encounter with a garage door?

Re: 1970 Camaro Race car

Ok! Here's the information on the car. 70 Fred Gibb S/S/Pro Stock AHRA Camaro. The car is a no issue car, I have a copy of the MSO title, I also have a letter from Fred Gibb & complete owner history to the MSO. This car has all the original sheet metal, orginal glass front end & hood. The car is a great museum piece or certified race car. The car can run in the high 9's all day long. The ZL1 motor has been faithfully reproduced from carbs to pan. The motor dynoed 816 hp & idles like a 283.

Fred Gibb had 3 race cars. #1 - 67 "Little Hoss" Camaro, #2 - 1969 ZL1 Camaro, and the last car, my 70 Camaro. Little Hoss sold at auction for $325,000, the ZL1 sold for around $1,000,000. You'll never buy a Gibb race car cheaper than this car. This includes all parts & trailer.

Thanks for looking.

Re: 1970 Camaro Race car

wow, what a neat car. price seems reasonable for a rare piece.
Looks like a form of a chrysler-ish thermoquad (carter) carb setup with the black bases. kept the fuel cooler in the bowls.
I have never seen that on a chevy.

Yeah, a vintage picture from around 1971 would be cool for this thread!

I just educated myself on the web, and read carter made a competion series thermoquad, discontinued in the mid 70s. pretty rare. just finished rebuilding 2 of the standard 780cfm ones. I think they are very cool, and that is why those competition one caught me eye. 2 separate floats in each (complex but cool!). For me, I saw these mostly as a chrysler thing, if you consider the 70-75 time frame. But competition series is good for any car make. There are numbers somewhere on how the phenolic body added horsepower on the mopar standard applications just by cooling down the fuel, it was substantial. Probably very improtant at the starting line. That 70 car was using every trick then to get the best horsepower.

yeah, I can see getting parts for that carb would not be fun. love the way that engine looks.

I wanna say there's a video of this car vs. Jim Parks' '63 Nova from last year's Supercar Reunion...it was the last run of the day, so if I'm not mistaken they both stayed in it and ran into the 9s (tech cut 'em off @ 10.0s, iirc)...I had a whole host of other issues that day so I may be misremembering.

Edit: HERE YOU GO!!!! [click the image]

This Gibb/Harrell car also the price Red Alert is currently being offered for seem absolutely unbelievable deals!!!
These cars still capable of being potent weekend track warriors as originally built to be instead of just a special car sitting in fella's shop simply adds to their value!.

Seriously, in a world where trickery and outright fraud abound also auction-hype helps sell lesser cars for more $, chances to buy cars like this w/ verifiable and unparalleled history at these prices must surely be once in a lifetime opportunities!!!

Thanks to the caretakers/sellers of these exctiting and historically important cars also good luck and traction to whoever the new owner/racers end up being!.
