Looking for my old racecar

Hello to everyone, my name is Dave Nelson, been a lurker here for quite awhile. This may be a longshot but here goes. I started drag racing in 1968 at Atco, I was there quite often as I lived in Northeast Phila. In 1970 I raced a 70 Z/28 that I purchased new. Car was yellow w/black stripes, and at one time was sponsored by National Auto stores on Bustleton ave. After racing a season in stock/super stock I took in a partner (big mistake) and built the car to run in A/MP. Met a guy who lived in Doylestown (I believe)I think his name was Steve Diodoty who raced a 68 or 69 Nova (may have been called Moose)who was a big help to me.
We did not race the car long before my partner flipped it at Atco.I sold the car to a relative of Steve, and was told later he had repaired the car. I currently have a 1970 SS/RS 396 Camaro L-34 (one of 1800)built.Just thought I would give it a shot to see if this car may still exist.

Thanks

Welcome Dave. What dealer did you buy the car from? Any old pictures?

We'll see if any of this seems familiar to some of the OG's around here.

Paul, my uncle was the general manager of Vic Potamkin Chevy in South Phila.at Broad & washinton ave.He was there for many years, and was really into Muscle cars. I purchased the car thru them, and was one of the first camaro's delivered after the shutdown.

These are the only pics I have, rest were ruined in a flooded basement many years ago. Pics were taken at Steve's house.

I remember Steve Diodati. So you ran the early Pro Stock circuit in those days when you were not running MP?

Yes, that's correct but it didn't last long. I got back into racing in the late 80's, and continued to run bracket cars until 2001.

Dave,

I have Steves email adress if you send me a message. The Nova was a white with red strip 1970 396-375 orig. In 1969 or 1970, he pulled the ZL1 out of his 1966 Chevelle SS(Assassin)and switched motors with the Nova. The Nova motor is still in the Chevelle today here in Ca. I thought the Nova was also called the Assassin?
Good luck, Jim

National Auto on Bustleton! What a place, a lot of us would limp our ride over there and fix the junker right there in the parking spot - never knew they sponsored a race car, very cool!

Re: Looking for my old racecar

I used to go to Islip all the time as a kid to watch the circle track we would sit in turn 2 with all the old school islip guys. Unfortunatly I was there the night the car went into the center and killed one of the pit crew it was the last time they ever pitted in the center of the track. I also heard tons of stories of the drag racing there. Good times.
