Re: 124379N615931 knowledge ?
Is this a newly found car? Roger
|
Re: 124379N615931 knowledge ?
Ed's old list shows it as a Yenko sold car. Good place to start may be a call to Warren D to see if he has a file on it

Re: 124379N615931 knowledge ?

Re: 124379N615931 knowledge ?
Hi All, I'm the friend Charley was, um, commenting about. This is my very first time posting so please bear with me.
Yes, this is a '69 HO Yenko Camaro in pretty original condition except for a repaint and gobs and gobs of chrome. The previous owner had chromed the inner fenders, brake booster, cowl cover, hood hinges, pulleys, even the 4spd trans case. During its chroming-era customizations the whole engine compartment had been torn apart, and halfway through the reassembly that's where the project got stalled. And that was about 20 years ago, maybe more. So that's how I've received the car, partially in boxes and glittery as can be. With your suggestion I did give Warren D a call but he doesn't have records for too many of the '69 cars, unfortunately including this one. So I'm still looking for some history and suggestions on how I can get some of its pretty cool options authenticated, and any help is appreciated. I'll post some pics once I figure out how to do that. Thanks Charley for getting this thread started for me! -Wade |
Re: 124379N615931 knowledge ?
That's a nice find anyway you look at it, Wade. As long as the hidden vin's match the dash vin and the cowl tag's in place with a Yenko bdy #, you're golden. Getting an NICB & tracking the owner history may get you the documentation you're seeking
we always like to see pics of these cars pre resto, if you'd like to share. Congrats |

Re: 124379N615931 knowledge ?
The owner worked at a chrome shop. Would be cool to see it put back together with all the chrome if it is still good.

Re: 124379N615931 knowledge ?
Wow, another orange style trim Yenko Camaro! Looks like a nice low mile car. The floors should clean up nicely after the undercoating is removed. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Re: 124379N615931 knowledge ?
great find! does it have the BE rear in it as well?
|
Re: 124379N615931 knowledge ?
Awesome...that bdy # is smack dab in the middle of the other X-11 Yenko's. They must have all come down the line together. William, would that be correct?
|
Re: 124379N615931 knowledge ?
Jude,
The vins on the X11 Yenkos range from N613xxx to N616xxx. The earliest X44 car in the second Yenko order is a 02D built car N608xxx, 10 body numbers from this orange X11 Yenko car. They definately did not go down the assembly line by body number. Parts availability (BE 12 bolt) was probably the most important factor as to when the cars were assembled/vin assigned on the line. This explains the large discrepancy between body numbers of normal production cars and Copo cars. Mark |
Re: 124379N615931 knowledge ?
Well they would be close. The X11 Yenko here in town is BDY 219833 but 143 units later. It is a Daytona Yellow/black vinyl automatic with a factory console, power steering, endura bumper, special interior group. I know of no other Yenko Camaro like it. I wonder if it was ordered for a specific customer.
|
Re: 124379N615931 knowledge ?
William,
Yenko Camaro Bdy # 219830 is also an X11, console auto, hugger orange/black vinyl with special interior group. All the X11 Yenko Camaros have the special interior group for some reason. Mark |
Re: 124379N615931 knowledge ?
Does anyone have the page [SYC paperwork] this group is on?

Re: 124379N615931 knowledge ?
This subject has been discussed on this site before. Maybe I can add a little bit from my personal experience at the St. Louis Assy plant. Body numbers were assigned at the time that the order was keyed into the system. vins were assigned when the unit was released for line production. Production release on blanket orders was triggered by dealer green light - then component availability sequenced them in. COPO orders were manually flagged. The manual system wasn't fool proof at all - I remember car bodies sitting off line on the dollies for days (sometimes weeks) in St. Louis waiting for major components. Lots of times co-op students (like me at the time) would be assigned to follow the production and make sure that the COPO attribute was built. So - getting the COPO units produced in batches made it easier for knuckleheads like me to manually follow the production and give the line a "heads up". I remember baby sitting an L88 Corvette that we made for the king of Greece - unfortunately it got into the OK lot just before the strike (Thanksgiving until Christmas). Fortunately for us (the co-op students) we all got to "test drive" it during the strike!

Bill, I believe that the reason vin & corresponding bdy #'s has never been published is due to the cloning issue and the fact that trim tags are so easily repoped. I have a short list (only about 15 cars) that I can email to you |
