Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Too bad they restored it...
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Where's the rocker panel trim?
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
POP tape doesn't look like any of mine!
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
I've seen GM tape on fake POPs and non GM, generic tape used on authentic original POPs. If a dealership ran out of GM tape they had to use something to get the info on the POP plate.
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
The POP for my '69 Chevelle SS396 doesn't have any tape.... The 2nd owner had the car since '71.... and assume the dealer that sold it in '71 scraped it off.... or it was never put on to begin with..
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
If they restored a 1 owner car why was there no build sheets found?
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
You will almost never find a sheet on a Norwood car.
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Hello Charley!! I am the owner of the Dusk Blue COPO and I just want to "Thank You" for your knowledgable information. You are so correct on the built sheet question. I spent two days with a fellow that used to work at Norwood and build these cars. He said most of the time they would just stick a rolled up build sheet in the right sub-frame end, it would blow out first time driven or would blow out during shipping process if they put one on the car at all!! Again thanks for being a friend to the Camaro world!!! Thanks again, Dennis Lasseter Jr.

Roger Dean car...
POP and waranty book looks like other I've seen from Dean. Would love to see a Roger Dean badge on the rear of this car. Steve |
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Hello and thank you for your reply about the P.O.P. tape!! I own the COPO and you are exactly correct!! My family were GM dealers for 30 years, when we ran out of stamp machine tape we went to the local office supply place or a T.G.and Y discount store and bought it over the counter! A regular label maker was a cool thing back then, they still sell them today I think? Thanks for being knowledgable like Charley is!! Dennis Lasseter Jr.

Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Hello, No rocker panel trim on a base X44 car as it had no quarter panel gills and no chrome around roof drip rails either. Just letting you know. Thanks Dennis Lasseter Jr.
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Dennis, was this the special ordered blue car that was sold out of the owner's estate in New Jersey after he died?
If so, that was the same guy I bought my Hemi Charger from in 1987. He had a veritable zoo of rare musclecars stashed in his backyard. I still have some of the old yard photos. |
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Hey Smallblockhero!! I own the COPO and thank you for the kind words. She is a pretty car for sure!!! Thanks again, Dennis Lasseter Jr.
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
I thought there was rocker panel trim on these cars as well.
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Hey, no not this car, sorry! We bought it out of the original owners garage in West Virginia in 87. It never left W.V. from new until it was brought to our place in Tennessee that same year. Love those Chargers man!! Happy Holidays, Jr.
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Hey Hey, no rocker molding on a base car without trim package. You might could have special ordered that without a trim package, not sure about that. Most all real COPO cars were just plain jane but I have seen some real cars with trim packages and R.S. cars as well! Thanks Dennis Lasseter Jr.
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Body sill molding was standard on all 69 Camaros.
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Hello, are you saying body sill molding or lower rocker panel molding? I am sure you know that your RS car would have had rocker panel moldings because you had to have a upper trim code to have a RS but no base car without a trim package came with rocker panel molding as standard or that is what I was told by a fellow who used to work at Norwood and build these cars. I spent two great days with this fellow and we had a blast!! I always say, never say never though cause we could order almost anything when we were dealers back in the day. Thanks man, Dennis
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Hey, Oh I know what you mean. If you know someone that has a nice Roger Dean dealer sticker or emblem I would love to have one!! I used to own another COPO 9 body numbers from this car that was shipped to Roger Dean and the POP looked just like this one, but it should cause this is the original one! These old cars are just so cool! Thanks Dennis Jr.
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Hey Dennis. I bought a 68 Yenko from Dennis years ago. Dennis, the stainless molding you can see below the door on the orange 69 Camaro in the background is what he is talking about. It came on all 69 Camaro's no matter what trim level.
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Whatever you want to call it-the thin stainless strip the runs just under the doors-is standard equipment on even base models. You car is missing it.

Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
It is a beautiful car, and I believe that having the original owner's info is the best! Too many docs are faked these days. The POP comment was not meant to be critical - just interesting for the community (me in particular) to learn from. For example, doesn't the POP build date say "7"?
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Hello, sorry to bother you but the photo of the blue Chevelle on your id, did that car used to belong to David Bonn, maybe not spelled Bonn correctly? Thanks, Dennis
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Hey, that is what I thought he meant and I understand for sure. Just looking at old photos in Jerry MacNeish's book quite a few COPO's have no rocker chrome. We bought this car with original paint and it had no rocker chrome, just dont know what to say, haha! Good to hear from you my friend!! Keep in touch Charley please!! Dennis

Isn't that a "7" (JULY) on the POP build date? and a May build on the TT?
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Hey, Yes the POP has a 7 and this is the original POP that came out of the glove box with the other papers when we bought the car in 87. We were always getting POP's late for the new owner when we were dealers and we were always always getting stuff stamped wrong or as we say today it would be wrong, haha! We actually had to send some back to the factory to have some corrected also. Car was sold new on June 2nd,69 and was actually titled on June 30th,69. Build date on car is May 1st week as per cowl tag and the vin matches up perfect. Thanks, Dennis

Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Just for clarification all 69 camaros came with the rocker molding/spears, regardless of trim level. Why this car"never" came with them is an anomaly. I'm wondering if it had the holes for the moldings.
Welcome to the site Dennis, its been a while since we spoke. |
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Hey Hey Steve, Good to hear from you!! Hope all is well and I hope you and your family have great Holidays!!! You are right as 69 Camaros were supposed to have the rocker moldings! When we were GM dealers we actually got in quite a few that did not have them, but that was always on a plain jane car so I always thought that was just a trim option piece. I tell ya we used to get in lots and lots of new GMC trucks with Chevrolet tailgates ( yes the whole tailgate, haha ) Chevy horn buttons, and the most funny part, they would have a Chevy Silverado Emblem on one fender and GMC Sierra Classic Emblem on the other fender! If you restored one of those today people would say that's nuts,HAHAHA!! This car had no holes so again just weird. Thanks for the welcome and take care my friend!! Dennis

Roger Dean used a die cast badge. Here is a shot on my 68 for ref.
They sold a lot of Hi-Po cars esp Corvettes. I know of 4 69 C.O.P.O's from Dean and have heard about a ZL-1 that was possibly in the showroom also. Steve |

I also have the book ...Not many other performance dealers have their own story book...LOL
USN Lt. Roger Dean was a combat flight instructor who loved to haul a$$ for our country ..long before his Hi-PO Chevrolets. I have a neat pic of him posing beside his plane with half the landing gear ripped off... |

Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
I keep a registry for cars made in May, there is some strange things going on in May. Probably because Firebird production started in Norwood at the end of May.
I have one X33 car in my registry with VIN only two digits after this one with N644667. But the trimtag BDY number is 32836 units after this COPO. The Z/28 has 05C on its tag. These two cars should be just after each other on the line with one car in between them. So what date were they really produced? There are no cars with 05B produced. Mine X77 with 05C is 260 units ahead of this COPO on the line. Jan |
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Hello and thank you so much for at least being able to see one of his Dealer Emblems. Our family dealership went thru maybe 3 different designs over 30 years, first metal, then plastic, then to the decals like most all use today. I wish I could find one of those emblems for the old COPO!!! I cannot remember who I had heard Roger Dean was a silent partner with or maybe just a really good dealer friend that had some pretty big pull with GM back in the day. Thank you so much again for the photo of the Dealer Emblem from Dean!!!!!!

Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Dennis, do you have any pics of the Rallye Green Roger Dean COPO (N644119)that you owned, before it was restored. Think it was sold at B-J last Jan. If not, what was the history on that COPO?
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
You are so correct! Strange things happened all the time that experts say, oh that ain't right, that is wrong, lol! Being a dealer during those times were crazy and I looked at these personally. We got in some Camaros with Firebird steering wheels and a couple with a Firebird emblem or two. Cars were great but quality control my butt! GM was not worried about crap matching, if it fit put it on! Lets sell cars boys!! Thanks for your letter! Dennis Jr.
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
I don't think I'd agree with "not worried" Dennis - but trying to keep up with the assembly line in St. Louis did make me feel a bit like that famous "I Love Lucy" episode where she was trying to keep up with the candy assembly line! Even on the slower Corvette side it was hard when breaking in on a new job. I'd say we did pretty good though - the cars are still being "examined" 40 plus years later.

Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
Thanks for your letter. I totally understand and I was certainly not giving GM UAW workers a hard time. I just know how we used to get cars off the truck in the 60,70,80,90's and yes I think you did a good job with what you had to work with for sure!! I think what I really mean is nothing was written in stone. As you know if a part was not in place and another was that was not correct but would fit and make it run, heck put it on,haha! People are so worried today about a date code being 2 weeks off, etc etc. etc.. GM and other auto companies were not worried about a darn date, get it out, get it sold, that was the most important thing. Just from experience and thanks for building us some of the most awesome cars on the planet today!! Bless Ya!! Jr.
|
Re: 1969 COPO all matching on ebay
I here ya for sure. They were supposed to but we got some off the truck with no molding, just letting you know but again I certainly agree they were supposed to have them. Thanks Jr.
