With shallow cup. 1/8th I'm told. I thought the spring clip style was that way only.

As far as I know the only way the snap cap was available was in the deep 1/4" recess.

I have three, one of which is in very good shape but would still need to be rechromed. It has one pit on the outer surface, four pits on the inner lip and one blemmish on the face of the lip. It uses the peened over backing plate versus the screw on.

1969 Super Sport rims used the bolt on center cap, with 1/4" depth on top,on the assembly line.
Early assembled 1970 Super Sport rims used the same bolt on cap, while later cars got the newly designed clip on cap.
Both still had 1/4" depth on top.

If from Leeds & box #91 of your buildsheet says #775,that would mean your car received the bolt on cap originally.

Later on into the 1970's,GM still produced the clip on cap,but now with 1/8" depth, that was available over the counter.

1/8th #323 cap.

Okay professor, once again I see how little I know. I have a question for you since we are on the subject. 70 Chevelle, Atlanta, April, 4th week build, block 91 whl covrs 323FJ.

Probably the snap on kind since I have both the 1/4, and 1/8th deep with the screw backplates.

My 05D Arlington car has the 1/4" snap-in caps.

Re: Chevelle SS center cap

Any buildsheet with 323FJ is originally a snap-in cap style. 770 or 775 denotes bolt-ons.

I was educated on these caps from Phil "Woj" and Grady...
