Disco Nova fans.

Just picked this gem up. One owner old lady, 69,000 miles, 6 cyl 3 speed auto, not one spot of rust anywhere. Only option is power steering. Nothing else! Time for a V8!

Re: Disco Nova fans.
Very cool Bingo Bomber. Needs a pair of the 15x7 steel rims for the rear like my chevelle so you can keep the dog dish hub caps ..V8 swap and disc brakes sub frame my still in that the yard see pic below..http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...6/IMAG0512.jpg

Re: Disco Nova fans.
OK from the limited info you gave here is what I see....76 Nova with drivers side remote mirror and for those that did not know it already has disc brakes as did all 75 and later X-bodys and no passenger dome lite swith in the door jam. I have a 78 that is the basic same car as this one but mine is brown and has 80 some thousand on it. Not much value here in parts but it may be fun to beat the snot out of when you put in the V-8!!

Ditto, but with a 540 and make the engine look old and dirty.

Re: Disco Nova fans.
The biggest thing I have laying around is a 454 LS6 crate motor. I would have to run a 1970 LS6 intake to clear the stock hood. I also have a few 396's and a few well built small blocks. Unfortunately, I don't have the cash laying around for a big inch BBC build up.

Re: Disco Nova fans.
I've got a friend here in St. Louis that has probably built a dozen of those particular style Nova's and they just fly. Early Camaros and Novas have just become too valuable and these later ones can be picked up cheap . . . . even really nice ones! A Camaro 12-Bolt is a drop-in and they accept BBC's very easily.

Re: Disco Nova fans.
Just a small update. Installed a warmed over 350 and a 2800 stall mystery 10" converter. Kept the stock Turbo 250 slushbox and 2.73 open in it. It went 14.39 @ 94 mph with a 2.0 60 foot at Atco this past Tuesday night. Its been a really fun car and i'm working on making it more sleepy. Pics to follow.

Re: Disco Nova fans.
14.39 with a small block and a 2.73 rear is nothing to sneeze at!
|
Re: Disco Nova fans.
Actually I was seriously surprised it even ran that. I was hoping for mid 15's on the current setup. The turbo 250 slips real bad between the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. After I drop in a freshened up Turbo 350 and shift kit, I'm going to see if it will run 13's with the 2.73 open and stock tires.

Here are some current pictures. I even left the stock 6cyl tail pipe hanging.

Re: Disco Nova fans.
Wow, great sleeper!

Re: Disco Nova fans.
Just an update. I had a used Turbo 350 transmission that I knew was good so I swapped in a vintage B&M shift kit into it courtesy of member C1SS396. I also swapped out the 2.73 one legger 7.5" rear for a 8.5" rear end that I installed a GM posi and 3.42 gears into. It runs pretty good now. Pics soon.

Re: Disco Nova fans.
I love that car. A buddy of mine in high school had a green 79 with a 350 and a Muncie. I think he paid $2k for it at the Jefferson, WI swap meet in 1994 and we drove it home.
I have a solid roller, AFR head, splayed-cap 406 that would work in your Nova! |

Here is a pic of the rear swap. I didn't paint the other rear at all just so it looks like it was never out of the car to begin with. The 8.5" is sitting on the hand cart.
|
Re: Disco Nova fans.
Good idea to swap in the bigger 10 bolt. My buddy's car definitely had the 8.5" - I didn't realize any of the Novas came with the 7.5" rear.

Re: Disco Nova fans.
Another update.
The car's previous best with just the engine swap with a stock 6cyl drivetrain on 14" stock tires it went 14.394 @ 94.2 mph with a 2.087 60 foot. With the B&M transmission shift kit, the 3.42 posi rear, a set of crane roller rockers (got rid of the roller tipped rockers), and some 275-50-15 drag radials, it went 13.407 @ 99.44 mph with a 1.933 60 foot flashing the converter. It was falling over on its nose before the traps so it was running out of fuel. I kept raising the float levels to get it to stop falling over but it started running really rich. It really needs a fuel system upgrade. It has a parts store $13 pump on it and a cheapie glass filter with some bogus lines running to the carburetor. I feel it will pick up some MPH and maybe a tenth or two with a solid fuel system. |

Re: Disco Nova fans.
This is pretty cool man. Car craft had a "disco" nova about 8 years ago, of course they never finished it! Whats your goal, street sweeper? bracket car?
|
Re: Disco Nova fans.
Just a fun beater is all I am after. Something that is still semi-cool that wasn't worth much that I wouldn't care if it caught fire, got a door ding, was stolen, etc etc.
Wait, Car Craft didn't finish a project? NO WAY! LOL |
Re: Disco Nova fans.
Ha! I still have my semi finished 65 Lemans that I built at Car Craft in 2002. One of these days I will get around to making it look nice.

Here's some updated pics with 2 new rear wheels (15x7 full size steelies) and some drag radials along with a slightly taller front tire.

Re: Disco Nova fans.
Fun, cheap, and it gets out of its own way. Way cool in my book!

9-C-1 Nova clone?

Re: Disco Nova fans.
Nice..!!!.. We used to have a 78 SS when I was growing up.. Loved that thing.. Black with gold stripe. Ill have to see if I can dig up some pics.

Re: Disco Nova fans.
I remember those "disco Novas" back in the late 1970's as they were the loaner cars (remember those?) at our local Chevy dealer, Cooley Chevrolet in New Haven, CT.
The best part was that the pristine, unused, ashtray inserts were the exact same part as used on my 1969 Z11 Camaro. I managed to swap one out to replace the crusty original piece that the chain smoking previous owner ruined. |

I might be off on the year but it was a SS.. I remember 78 being the last year for SS not '76.. Maybe my memory is getting worse.. You can see it behind the green car..
