The Downside of Day 2: Polished Original Parts
I love Day 2 stuff. Unfortunately, sometimes hard to find original parts suffer. Polished intakes, alternators, aluminum heads, etc. have taken quite a beating over the years due to day 2 modifications using original parts. Here is an original Z/28 crossram that met the fate of the polisher early on and was put on a shelf shortly after. It is pretty cool in a bitter sweet kind of way.
Does anyne else have any other Day 2 factory parts they would like to share? Jason |

Re: The Downside of Day 2: Polished Original Parts
Want to sell it? It is literally dated perfect for my Z...

Re: The Downside of Day 2: Polished Original Parts
I will be selling it soon. I wanted to send it out and have it certified as original before selling it. Maybe we could work something out before then. It is definitely an original GM piece. I just wanted to give buyers piece of mind.

Re: The Downside of Day 2: Polished Original Parts
Jason, as much as I hate to say this, some of the GM stuff was "Over the Counter" and out the side door of the casting house. ie. Lost in production. Lol. But at that point in time, it was kinda like polishing up a set of heads off an LS motor today. To each his own I guess?
All, kidding aside, it is sad to see all of the rough cast gone on a lot of factory parts you have pictures of. A little blasting would bring some of it back, but not all the good stuff. |
Re: The Downside of Day 2: Polished Original Parts
Well here is my offering for this page. I have an original 3946052 ZL-1 block. Was smoothed and polished up.

It may not be to some but I like all those polished parts. The heads and block are really cool.

Matt, they left the date code but removed the casting number? Strange.

Here is a polished 1969 Camaro Z28 manifold. Luckily they left all the casting marks on it still. They just polished everything else.

What about people stamping thier names and numbers all over everything? I am the worst to do that to my stuff.

Re: The Downside of Day 2: Polished Original Parts
Here's a pair of OTC 074 heads I bought from a friend with the intensions of putting them on my car. I ended up using a nice pair of 077 heads so I sold the 074's.

Tommy </div></div> "EB", which is my friend's nickname, was engraved on the above 074 heads. Kurt http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/100_2373.jpg |
Re: The Downside of Day 2: Polished Original Parts
Years ago, I had the chance to buy an original ZL-1 block...it was out of one of the real cars. I believe car 43...(95% if my memory serves me)...but definitly one of the real born with blocks. I did not buy it because it had been polished !!!
..... back in the day!!! |
Re: The Downside of Day 2: Polished Original Parts
Just an update, the crossram came back as being original. I plan to list it for sale in the classifieds shortly.
