At the strip in the seventies

I just have to share some of the pics I have. Most of these were taken by Ingvar Lindén living in Linköping at the nearby track Mantorp Park Raceway. I believe these were taken around 1976.
First a couple of pics of a trike built by Anders Lake in Stockholm, if I remember correctly. I believe I read in a magazine from the seventies that he died young.

And now some Corvettes.

http://i436.photobucket.com/albums/q...s/Corvette.jpg

I don´t remember which but one of them, Stampede or Whitchcraft, came to Sweden race-ready. The other one was built here.

Re: At the strip in the seventies

The Firebird in the background is the one that Nicolai Lawrienco owned and drove. The engine consisted of a RAIV block with a RAV crank in it. With some other special parts on top, like homemade intakes. I think he had a bunch of them. My friend Nova67-Anders has some stories about that engine/car.

http://i436.photobucket.com/albums/q...dLawrienco.jpg

The white Charger behind the UFO Mustang is also a factory HEMI car. I believe Jan Suhr has it covered in his book "Scandinavian Muscle Cars".

http://i436.photobucket.com/albums/q...UFOMustang.jpg

I think I have an article about this El Camino somewhere but I can´t find it right now.

http://i436.photobucket.com/albums/q...s/ElCamino.jpg

Last for this time is the Opel Manta FC the way it looked in the summer of 1976. It was soon after destroyed in a fire.

Re: At the strip in the seventies

Here is the Thorleif Corvette before it was sponsored by them. Jan "Juan" Johansson was the man to beat for many years in the Stock class. He usually competed with a L-88 but also had a couple of ZL-1 engines. Beckers paint is the sponsor, and they also sponsored Lawrienco´s Firebird as seen in one of the earlier pics.

The UFO Mustang and another Corvette.

Here is the Jungle Jim chassie with the Opel body in 1976.

Ragnarök also had the shroud over the pipes.

"Norrlandsjeepen" was another one of those "unbeatable" cars. The Eriksson brothers really got that thing going, but there were actually several versions of it over the years.

http://i436.photobucket.com/albums/q...andsjeepen.jpg

Another HEMI car. Factory I assume as this was 1976.

I dont know, The first Corvette he had was a 68 Corvette with a L88 in it (Beckers)

The second was a 69 and he put a ZL1 in it, (Torleifs)
And he had two of them (Thorleifs Corvettes)

The third was a 62 Corvette with a ZL1 engine.

It was a requirement to prevent oil hitting the hot pipes, a few years later the dual pipes came around.

You got me inspired Anders, I have to start digging in my drawers. I have a few pictures from the same time.

Thank you guys ! Looking at old pics is real fun so you better find some of yours Jan, and post them.
I don´t think "Juan" had any original L-88 Corvettes but he bought hard to find parts in his quest for lower times.

I believe this one is the same as the one with "Beckers" on it. Just a year or two later.

http://i436.photobucket.com/albums/q...sCorvetten.jpg

Here is another one, a convertible, at the track in Anderstorp. I don´t know when I took this one but it could be the early eighties.

Re: At the strip in the seventies

You are probably right Anders

Re: At the strip in the seventies

Thorleifs II and ZL1 engine
So from 1977 the Corvettes was named thorleifs. 1978 the estate was further a Corvette, a-69 coupe. Production year GM introduced the infamous 1969 ZL1 engine., 1979, it was time for Juan to try their luck with the new ZL1 engine, which he managed to squeeze the entire 575 HP from.
