Day 2 & Street Freak Camaro Thread
Original paint 69 SS Camaro. Owner bought in early 1970 and parked it in 1974-ish and brought it back out 5-6 years ago. Paint was touched up at the bottom of the fenders and bottom of rear qtrs.
Saw the car at a show several years back and he took off the cool bias ply's (L70-14's) and put on small, modern low profile rice burner radials and it just ruined the look. Have you seen the low riders-that's what it looked like. Little itty bitty things with the car at the same height. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ICS/day269.jpg |
Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Camaro Thread

Car is burnished brown and yes McCrearys which were big in my area. Car had 14x7 reversed in the rear and 14x6 standard offset front with F70-14 I should check to see if the guy has the tires, they were like new. Hope they didn't end up on the tire recycler pile. Next time I am in that area I will check. That tire size/wheel size combination does look good on a 69. Maybe they will bring that size out again one day. Plowman-the car's rear tail panel body color-just looks dark. Notice the Z/28 emblem on the car..weird things guys did back then. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...CS/day2692.jpg |
Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Camaro Thread
Man, I love Burnished Brown on those. I'd just go with 15 inchers instead though.

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Camaro Thread
This 69 is on my top ten list of Day 2 Camaros. The stance is dead on, white painted headers poking out underneath and the color is just right. Car is so clean and no fluff or junk added.

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Camaro Thread
For you "Yinzers".....
A guy who lives near me, Stan bought this car new from a Pittsburgh dealership when he lived in McKees Rocks. Car was not a hugger orange but a special order orange..can’t remember the name. Bracket towing was notorious for scrubbing off front tire tread especially on curvy roads....you "Yinzers" know what the roads are like.... and people in the area know what Yinzers means.... http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...PICS/stan3.jpg Stan was the automotive manager at the local Bridgeport Ohio Fishers Big Wheel dept store (ala Harts, Aimes, Hill’s etc)in the early to mid 70’s. Built the 396 at the store and kept the motor by the counter for a while. FBW sold a bunch of speed equipment in the day. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...PICS/stan2.jpg This is how the car looks in the late 70’s and still looks this way 100% today-cars in my area tend to be time capsules. ET mags, Lakewood bars, M/T valve covers, Sun gauges and Tach. Car was painted in the late 70's orange with pearl added with micro white metal flake-looks unbelievable real life. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...PICS/stan1.jpg Stan sponsored the local Wheeling Armory car show when he was FBW manager. This was 1973-check out the lower right hand corner. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_2297.jpg |
Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Camaro Thread
Hey Whitetop, I'm a former "yinzer" lol, born and raised in Pgh and lived there until I was 30-ish. Great place to grow up.
At work so can't see the pics so I'll have to check it out when I get home. |

Cruisin USA was awesome. I wish someone would do another series of it today. (Oh, notice this is the same drive-in)

This Camaro was my favorite car when this magazine was current (1981) I think it just looks awesome. This is in Hawaii btw. Can you imagine what it cost to build that car over there? 3-4X
(I used to have an article of a red one just like it called "Canyon Racer") http://blueicehouse.com/n5ssi/IMAG0191.jpg |
Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Camaro Thread
Great pictures Whitetop! I am digging the tow car also. This is how we did it back then.

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Camaro Thread
Mayhem, I have the '81 CC Street Freaks too and some of those Hawaii cars were cool. Notice the '67 RS/SS 396 Camaro in the drive-in scene. I wanted that car!

http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...PICS/stan1.jpg

if not Hugger Orange than maybe Carousel Red? Has a '69 C.R. Judge-ey look to it. |
Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Camaro Thread
I hear ya Bill. Almost every car in that issue was awesome. The Cuda with the Centerlines was way cool too.
It's a shame most of the pics were B&W. Cool times though. Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Camaro Thread
I love the Camaro convertible. Street machine convertibles with tunnel rams were very popular back in the day..but they look best with the top up.
I wish more people would run chrome reverse. Don't see it too often. |

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Camaro Thread
yep, chrome reverse are underrated. They were popular back in the late 60's if you could not afford Cragars. Hard to find today in nice shape. The lettered up 69 C/MP camaro is Butch McKinnon. A good running Modified Eliminator car at Raceway Park on those warm Sunday afternoons back in the day. Boy was I young in those days!

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Camaro Thread
Hector - nice shots. Love the 1st '69 bitin' real hard on the launch. Ooooo BABY!!!

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Camaro Thread
Sammy
There are a couple co's making accurate true chrome reverse. Not the universal fit, multi bolt hole with those hokey centers that did not match the factory centers that was available back in the 80's and 90's.. |
