Great car and one that I would have liked to have kept. Originally came with Ansen slots from Motion.

This car was in the Milt Robson collection back in the late 80's. It was owned by a doctor before that. I believe it had the ralley wheels all the way back to the 1989 MCR article. The article said the car was run thru a collector car auction back in the 80's and didnt get big action because most bidders thought the car was just a "gussied up hot rod". If Milt had the car in his collection,it is no doubt a very excellent piece.

That's it, Scanelli....

Re: 71 Baldwin Motion Camaro

I not aware that Milt ever owned the car, but not 100% sure. The original owner was a dentist from PA. The car was also shown in a Hot Rod magazine article sitting on a used car lot in the late 70's with Cragar SS wheels on it. The rallys seem to have come after that. It looked great with the Cragars. Great car that has had a lot of ink over the years.

Used car lot was in Lebanon, PA IIRC.....

Was'nt this car also in the Mark Martin Museum near the track in Daytona?

I thought I remember seeing it there and than inquiring about it when it went up for sale 10 years or more years ago. If not there is a twin to it.

Re: 71 Baldwin Motion Camaro

I did buy it out of Florida about 12 years ago, but was thinking it was from Orlando. Don't remember buying from a Museum though, but perhaps it was on display at one time.

Been told only one documented with red and white stripes..

Re: 71 Baldwin Motion Camaro

I'm sure it was at the museum near the track in Daytona and that was about the time period. Could very well have been on loan.

I remember seeing it for sale for I think $ 47K not too long after that and kicking myself later for not jumping on it.

So apparently, there is only one red/white one.

Cool car.

I know I like the red one here the best; seeing as it was an East Coast car I think I may have seen this car in the late '80's. I used to park cars in Atlantic City in the '80's and seem to recall seeing a car that looked amazingly like this one cruising along Pacific Avenure at night; it stopped me in my tracks and I never forgot that sight.

Very good possibility because I have paperwork from a previous owner:

I think the MCR article on this car it said something about 71 of them being made in 1970. As far as I know only 70's and 71's could be true B/M cars, and maybe a handfull of early 72's since Baldwin Chevrolet closed I believe in the end of 71. The rarest Motion "new car" 2nd gen were the 73's of which I believe they made 3. I think one or two of those had a 400 smallblock for power. The 72 and later new car conversions were done with car's sold thru other dealerships, but nose were ever really associatewd as having a motion/dealership relation. Many other 2nd gens were done as used cars throught the 70's I almost bought a 72 that was done into a Phase 3 car in 1976 after having started life as a plain jane 307 powered car.

Re: 71 Baldwin Motion Camaro

I saw your car at the E-town swap meet/car show back in the early 90's. It was a nice piece, some ink on it too. If I remeber correctly the car either wasnt restored or had a light resto right? Silver with black stripes and interior. Are you saying it was the last Baldwin car? I know Motion was building cars well into the 80's,but I wasnt sure of when Baldwin closed. I had heard that one of the 73's was a Baldwin car,but I thought they sold out to be an Olds dealer by then. Maybe some cars were delivered as a "make good" for cars that didnt come thru during the strike.

After Baldwin Chevrolet closed, the dealership remained and operated as Williams Chev for about a year and a half*, and then as Lion Chevrolet into the 80's. Never an Olds dealer.

*(Maybe as little as 10 mos)

Re: 71 Baldwin Motion Camaro

Thanks for the info Rich P. When was your car built. Was it an early 73? I thought Baldwin closed too early to sell 73 model year cars, but I never really looked into it. I know of a Motion built 73 Camaro that has a 4th week of November 1972 based on the body stampings being done in weeks 42 and 43,but I always thought it was probably a Motion only car not a Baldwin car. I never looked into it since the car is pretty hacked up as a race car now,and no Baldwin cars get no where near the money of a new car conversion.

I meant Non Baldwin cars. I went to look at a 72 Camaro that was done ito a phase 3 in 1976,the car was for sale for $5500 in 1991 and the owner couldnt sell it. It was a real clean survivor, and needed paint, and the engine was just freshened. With all the paperwork. The car was a no sell at $5,500 and the last I head the owner cut the car up for parts. A fully documented Motion Phase 3 car cut up for parts in the early 90's because nobody felt it was worth anything. I wish I had bought it. In the late 80's the car in this post had already fetched over 10 times that much, but somehow the cars that were converted later on never really gained in value.

Re: 71 Baldwin Motion Camaro

I agree with you Rich S! I never could understand why a car that was taken over to Motion after days or months would equal anything close to a delivered Baldwin and taken over to Motion, day one car. I have never worked a car like that because I dont find the value as the owners do and get the price they are wanting. Dont get me wrong it was SUPER cool that guys took cars over there and had a monster motor put in their cars.
Car is coming out of a private collection that would make any collector proud of this highly documented DAY1 Baldwin Motion Camaro that hasnt seen a show in over 10yrs. Thx

What eng was orig equip in this car from the factory??was it a base 307,z28,402 or??I would think they would have order a car with a 12 bolt and some hd parts otherwise it would be on the invoice right?

COPO 08-04-2011 01:33 AM

Re: 71 Baldwin Motion Camaro

Car was a Z-28 from the factory, so it came with a 10-bolt and 350 LT-1 330HP in 71. 1970 was the last year for a 12-bolt in Camaros.
