Re: Man indicted for faking Z-16
He was so insistent on telling everyone how correct the car was despite being told they were wrong ... must have a LOT of stupid in that family ...
Obetz resident indicted for trying to pass off one vintage car for another Monday, June 27, 2011 03:11 PM BY STEPHANIE CZEKALINSKI The Columbus Dispatch An Obetz man was indicted on four felony counts earlier today after he tried to pass off one vintage car for another, higher-end model on eBay, according to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office. Bobby Patton, 58, of 2238 Bridlewood Blvd., attempted to sell a classic car that he restored to resemble a 1965 Chevy Chevelle Z16. The car was really a 1965 Clevy Chevelle SS. Patton was charged with one count each of tampering with records, possession of criminal tools, telecommunication fraud and attempted criminal simulation. He faces a sentence of as long as eight years in prison. The black book value of a Chevelle SS is approximately $28,000, according to prosecutors. The Z16 model is valued at about $155,000. Patton listed the asking price for the doctored Chevelle at $100,000, according to the county. The post was eventually pulled, prosecutors said, after the company received numerous calls questioning the vehicle's authenticity. The ad included pictures of a cowl tag and the VIN plate, both of which appeared to be handmade. The car's original title also appeared to be altered, said Prosecutor Ron O'Brien said. Patton's arraignment is scheduled for July 13 in Franklin County Common Pleas Court." |

That is great news.

Re: Man indicted for faking Z-16
That is good to hear. Probably the most poorly executed clone I have ever seen.

HA HA!!!!!! This brightened my day.

Re: Man indicted for faking Z-16
The car was so wrong, I seriously do not realize how *anyone* could even think for a second that it is a real Z16. Its laughable to even think anyone would bid on it actually. BTW- my old Z16 is reportedly still apart after all these years by the current owner.. Shame. Its most likely never gonna be a whole car again.. Red/black/black version

Re: Man indicted for faking Z-16
Glad to hear a prosecuter "gets it".
Not quite so sure about this statement from the news article: "Cloned vehicles, which are customized or rebuilt to resemble different ones that are more valuable, are common, but it's rare that someone would try to sell one as the real deal, said Moskowitz, who is not familiar with Patton's case." That may be true with Z-16's, but certainly not with a SS or Z-28. Probably more fakes being represented as real than there are clones represented as clones. |

Re: Man indicted for faking Z-16
At least when JM certifies a clone (authentic recreation) it's upfront and known to all.
