Aluminum head repair near Philly?
I have a set of experimental Chevy sm. block aluminum heads from the early 60's. One head has extensive damage and was fixed but the repair was very ugly..if You know what I mean. I would like to see about having it fixed correctly. The head has a large hole on the outside where it is visible, so I need someone that can restore the original type finish after repairing the head. I know there are guys out there that do this, but I would rather find someone nearby then send the heads out. (Although I will send the head out if there is noone local)....Any help would be appreciated... Thanks SYC |

Re: Aluminum head repair near Philly?
Care to share pics? Are these aluminum sbc heads with more than 4 vc bolts?
|
Re: Aluminum head repair near Philly?
Thanks Elon..I will give them a call... and sure, i will post pics later today if I have the chance...
I do not believe they have more than 4 vc bolts..... I know that the exhaust flange bolts are at a 45 degree angle... |
Re: Aluminum head repair near Philly?
the quality of that aluminium was very poor compared too the quality of aluminium alloys used today. It can be difficult.

Re: Aluminum head repair near Philly?
You can try this fellow:
Clarkson EngineeringClarkson Engineering Place page 25 Evergreen Drive Lehighton, PA 18235-5310 (610) 377-4804 Maybe BBBenny knows him? I met him through a friend about 15+ years ago. Nice, small shop that did some great niche work. One of the times I was there he was fixing a head for a Cosworth v8. Don't really know what caused it, but basically all 4 holes where the valves were became one giant hole! He mentioned then that there were few people in the country that would touch things like this. |

Thanks for the response guys....but stiill have not found the right guy for the repair...still looking.
here's a few pics..of the good head..haha...anyone have any ideas what they were for/from?? I have an old Hot Rod magazine somewhere that has a motor on the cover with these heads..I just cannot locate it right now. I seem to remember something about a NASCAR connection?? Anyone have the magazine..I believe it was in 74 or 75 Hot Rod. I swore they were o-dash part numbers, but apparently they are something else...at this point I am not sure they are even Chevrolet..????? |

</div></div> Wow, thanks...They are cooler than I ever thought !! So they are Chevy heads?? I guess a vintage 327 build would be cool !! Besides the huge round exhaust ports with the bolt holes canted 45 degrees, another interesting thing is the inner head bolt holes are oblonged...did Chevy make any blocks where the head bolt holes were in a different location??? What motor would these heads have been used on? Or maybe I should find a real Grand Sport vette to buy..?? haha... I am gonna read up on the Grand sport vette project now.. |

Re: Aluminum head repair near Philly?
Awesome set of heads, the ports look like the ones we used to do for sprint cars.
