Another Nova help thread
This car is local and I'm planning to go see it in the next 2 days. Please check it out and give me your thoughts - good, bad & ugly.
1970 Nova SS Thanks in advance. |
Re: Another Nova help thread
Doesn't look bad.
|
Re: Another Nova help thread
NOT a bad car. I can live with the SB, Auto but not air on SS cars. JMO. A 4 speed would be nice but for the right price own it! That car should be priced reasonable.

Re: Another Nova help thread
Don't know if I would pay to much into the 20's but that is just me.

Re: Another Nova help thread
Isn't 48 Forest Green ? Sacrilege - what a great color. Like the patina under the hood. A lot of originality and the color HAD to be changed!

Re: Another Nova help thread
Thanks guys. Keep the comments coming please. The more info the better. I called and left the guy a voicemail earlier and am waiting on a call back. He's only about 20-30 minutes away, so I'm ready to go see it as soon as I talk to him and find out what his asking price is.

Car was green and the owner changed it to red. Paint was a nice older job. It was repainted again by southern hot rods I think. Looks like they went crazy on the over spray. Overall it was well worth the money in 06. I could have bought it for 15 then and if it didn't have AC I would have in a second.

Thank you very much for all that info. With regard to the overspray, are you saying that based on what appears to be red on the sides of the gas tank or am I missing something else? Also, do you think it's possible that the red that appears on the gas tank could be a reflection from the red paint on the car and the lift? Just throwing that out there. Lastly, did you get a chance to listen to the car and/or drive it when you looked at it? |
Re: Another Nova help thread
Looks like a great car... Unlike the other guys, I kinda like the AC option... It can be a pain in the a$$ sometimes but think how cool (literally)it will be this summer on a hot day when you switch that baby on and cruise in comfort...
I like the fact that it is a small block SS car.. You see so many big block SS cars... Rich |
Re: Another Nova help thread
Yeah it looks like there is some over spray in trunk and on the underneath of car from the last guys that painted it. It is a very clean original car except for the 2 repaints. Go look at it, may be the one.

Re: Another Nova help thread
Did you ever look at the red nova?
|
Re: Another Nova help thread
I went and saw it Wednesday night and was going to post yesterday, but got busy at work and forgot. I don't really know where to begin, but overall I am very interested in the car. I wasn't able to drive it, so me and good buddy of mine that's another SYC member are going to look at it and drive it on Sunday. The owner has one of the most impressive personal garages I've ever been in and the Nova was in the back corner, so there were 4 or 5 cars in front of it and it was late in the evening. Anyway, the person that painted that car needs to be castrated! The paint of the car looks good, but the overspray is ridiculous. I've seen far worse, but it's just a shame that someone was so sloppy on such a nice car. You'll see it in the pics below. It's a VERY original car. It was completely cold when I got there and it started on the very first try and idled almost perfectly. No smoke and no funny sounds from under the hood. I'm half deaf, so my buddy will be able to hear it this weekend in case I missed something. The interior is cherry and the AC blows nice and cold. The only thing that doesn’t work in the interior is the clock in the dash – even the door buzzer still works. The owner just had the AM radio and the factory speakers restored and he’s going to install them between now and Sunday. The documentation he has on the car is incredible. It’s too much to describe. The only thing he doesn’t have is the build sheet, but he said he hasn’t really looked for it in the car. He is very negotiable on the price, so I think I can get it for about $20K. The reason he's selling it is to make room in his garage for the 3 cars he has coming. He has only 1 space available, so he's selling this Nova and a ‘71 Vette. Here are the pics I took. Check 'em out and let me know what you think.

Re: Another Nova help thread
I saw the car before it was repainted red for a second time. The paint was real nice then. It really didn't need to be painted then, but what can you do now. It's a shame how much overspray there is but its hard to find nice original cars like that and with all the paper work it has, makes it great car.

Re: Another Nova help thread - MORE PICS
We went and looked at the Nova again yesterday. The owner pulled it out so we could get a better look at it. It was a little rougher than I orginally thought, but still a nice original car. All of the numbers checked out, so it's a true number-matching car. We drove it and it drove great. Nice power, comfortable ride and tranny shifted nice and strong. Here are some more pics, a few of which I need y'all's help on.
1. There are 2 holes in the trunk. What in the heck could these have been for? http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1...sco/Nova13.jpg 2. This doesn't look factory. Any idea what/why it's there? http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1...isco/Nova4.jpg 3. Again, this isn't factory. What and why is it here? http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1...isco/Nova1.jpg 4. The owner said he thought this was a clamp for a fire extinguisher. Does that look right? http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1...sco/Nova12.jpg 5. Is this the factory spare? http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1...sco/Nova11.jpg 6. Here are some small rust spots under the rear bumper. How much should I worry about these? http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1...isco/Nova8.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1...isco/Nova7.jpg |

Here are some better pics of the engine compartment. Let me know what you think - good, bad & ugly!

Re: Another Nova help thread - MORE PICS
The holes in the trunk look like air line fitting holes for air shocks.
The wires on top of the a/c box look factory to me.... The heater hose valve - I'm not sure, but I thought was factory too. The rust you are seeing on the rear tank supports is more likely just 'scale', probably nothing to worry about. That 'fix' will be a nice weekend project, just scrap it off, fill it in if necessary, and spray it. |
Re: Another Nova help thread - MORE PICS
Those 2 holes in the trunk are suposed to have plastic plugs in them? What they are for I am not sure. All my 68 novas had them? Maybe someone will chime in? Like Marlin said all the engine compartment pictures along with the AC parts look original to me?

Re: Another Nova help thread
Just a random question here, is it common to have the gauges on the center console with a Nova? I have never seen that before
|
Re: Another Nova help thread
Yes, very common. The console could be had with or without the gauges. The console was only available in the bucket seat cars.
I would like to know more about the two trunk holes like Jason. My Novas have them as well. I am glad they did since it helped water drain in the years before I found the cars.... Tommy |
