Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
So we now begin another one... More pictures to follow as the restoration progresses.
Car was raced at Englishtown in the early eighties. Story goes...High 9' with a GM aluminum headed 454, a glide and a Dana 60 with 5.13's and a spool. The Dana is still in the car. Real "K" code SS 1972 Nova. http://i579.photobucket.com/albums/s...0Nova/BBC2.jpg http://i579.photobucket.com/albums/s...0Nova/BBC1.jpg http://i579.photobucket.com/albums/s...a/01fa8924.jpg http://i579.photobucket.com/albums/s...a/51ba1f41.jpg http://i579.photobucket.com/albums/s...a/IMG_1437.jpg http://i579.photobucket.com/albums/s...a/IMG_1436.jpg http://i579.photobucket.com/albums/s...a/IMG_1427.jpg http://i579.photobucket.com/albums/s...a/IMG_1426.jpg |
Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
By the way, you do know that the Bontempo Brothers are still running the same speed shop in NJ they have run for decades?
They rebuilt the rear diff for my 72 T/A. Walking through their shop is the closest thing you will come to a time machine. There is stuff hanging on the walls, in corners, on shelves that's just amazing. Bontempo Brothers Competition 1539 West Blancke Street Linden, NJ 07036-6219 (908) 862-6336 |
Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
I do...I've talked to both Joe and Mike a couple times to get details about the car and what it was raced with.
Thanks |
Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
That's really cool Zach. This will be fun to follow along with!
|
Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
I love seeing what people do when they restore and old Nova. Any plans on keeping true to it's racing heritage?
Looks a lot like a Nova Dan P. had pover at his house too. |
Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
Cool project. That Dana looks wicked peeking out from underneath the hiney of that Nova. Keep the photos and progress coming Zach.
Thanks!! |
Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
Yay! Another Nova resto! Sweet!
|
Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
The car will look EXACTLY like the old pictures at the start of the thread. Motor is already built for the car (454 + .30 over and aluminum heads). However we are going to run a M22 over the powerglide option.
I bought this car from Dan P. a while back, just been hiding it trying to decide what I'm going to do with it. Thanks for the compliments. |

Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
Some of you will appreciate this. I got these in the mail to today from the man himself...Pete Van Iderstine.
Check out the pictures of the car from back in the day to understand why I'm so excited out these. http://i579.photobucket.com/albums/s...a/IMG_1632.jpg |
Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
Now THAT is cool!!! There are still some great people left in this world! Congrats Zach!

Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration

Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
Not much has really happened with it. Collecting vintage parts has been the focus lately. Trying to get my 69 L72 Biscayne finished 1st.... More pictures will follow shortly.

Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
The engine is getting ready to come out of the machine shop. Just waiting on the 660's to arrive so we can dyno it. 468 with 12:5.1 old school Manley domed racing pistons, Comp Nostalgia ZL1 solid lifter cam turned on a Billet 4/7 swap core, 074 Heads 2.30 intakes, Jomar Stud Girdles, etc, etc.

Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration

Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
You gonna put them "350" badges back on?
|
Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
Thats funny you said that. I have gone back and forth from 350 badges to 454 badges. I think I have decided to go with the 350 ones. I really want this thing to look exactly like it does in the pictures.
|
Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
Nice. I like the way you are thinking!!
|
Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
That motor looks viscous! And I vote for the 350 emblems! Put her back to full race trim...
|
Re: Bontempo Brothers 72' Nova Restoration
These are the pistons that we used for the build. Manley Pro Series Hollow Dome, 50cc dome volume.
