Russo and Steele Results Posted
Im am totally speechless on what alot of the cars at Russo sold for!!! Man there were some out of this world smoking buys! I usually sell a car or 2 over there but I didnt have any cars I needed to protect myself on this year so everything I had went to Barrett and I never made it over to Russo, but if I had I would be 1 broke S.O.B today because I would have spent my load over there!! God I wish I could go back in time.
Now a week later it looks like Mecum is knocking it out of the park on prices so far in Florida |
Re: Russo and Steele Results Posted
There were some great buys. People were dropping their reserves on some great cars. But like any auction, many cars were not as good as they looked to be in the photos. JMO, Ed

Re: Russo and Steele Results Posted
Certainly there were good and even some great deals.......I don't think that I would ever buy at an auction if I didn't think there would be a deal to be had.
I bid on a bunch of cars that weekend both for our inventory as well as for individual customers. While some people just have to have a particular car for their collection and will bid accordingly, others do look for deals, while some even bid.....just because the can! What is amazing to me is all the warped opinions from individuals (on other sites) who have never participated in the game? Some of the sideline commentators wouldn't even qualify for an entry level bidders pass! The auctions responsibility is to put buyers and sellers together as well as facilitate the transaction. R & S did just that. The auction had a tremendous sale/sell rate. The same people complain when prices are too high or when cars don't sell. It has generally been a buyers market for the past few years and I think its great to see cars moving at reasonable prices. I never expected to take home a 1966 Austin Mini Moke or Buick Stage 1 Convertible but I thought that they were good deals and I liked the cars. I did expect to take home the 1972 Pantera and the overall presentation of the '41 Willys was just amazing. |

I totally agree with you Stefano. People will complain just to complain and be heard (hopefully).

One of my favourite deals. Headers, a mild cam, some carb tuning - look out.
What a steal. http://www.russoandsteele.com/past-c...ouger-XR7/6080 |

That, and no one takes responsibility for their actions any more. When things go wrong, must be someone else’s fault. |
Re: Russo and Steele Results Posted
Interesting thoughts on Russo, I agree that prices were down, reflection of the economy. BJ is not a reflection of the real world of collector car prices. There was a car ar RS I was seriously interested in and upon arrival and my first visual inspection I was disappointed. I changed my mind several times over two days as to whether I was going to bid anyway. I followed the car to the block and could have had it for $24,500 which would have been an excellent price for a 68 SS350 Camaro, but with the issues I discouvered I walked away. Wish I cpuld have stayed for Saturday as there were some great buys in very good cars.

Re: Russo and Steele Results Posted
I can't access the results. I joined their site but the confirmation email never arrived so I can't finalize it. When I try to log in with that same email address it says, "You have not confirmed your membership".
Another Catch 22 here. Can't confirm membership if I never got the email so now I am locked out of their site. |
Re: Russo and Steele Results Posted

Re: Russo and Steele Results Posted
That wasn't the Willys.
|
Re: Russo and Steele Results Posted
Did someone say Willys?
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/736/dsc1091u.th.jpg (click on thumbnail) Unfortunately, I don't have a photo better than that. :-( |
Re: Russo and Steele Results Posted
Thats the one. Stunning car. Bone stock.
|
Re: Russo and Steele Results Posted
If it doesn't remain stock, the owner will be going to hell.
|
Re: Russo and Steele Results Posted
The buyer has a collection of Willys and had never seen one this nice. He flew in just to buy that car. It will remain stock. Went to the right guy.

Re: Russo and Steele Results Posted
Good thing the underbidder didn't get it....who knows what he may have done with it?
|
Re: Russo and Steele Results Posted
Was that you, Stefano? :-)
How much did that car go for? |
Re: Russo and Steele Results Posted
Our very own Charley was the underbidder. I think he jumped in at $80 or $85k, when it stalled, thinking he was going to own it at that price and a bidding war broke out between him and a guy behind him........if I remember right it took $145,000.00 to win that bid.
